I think Narrow Stairs was the first DCFC record I listened to in full. I bought the CD randomly and ended up loving it. I don't think it's the common gateway album for this band, but it worked for me.

Autumn Love is a top tier Death Can Song almost immediately in my opinion.

I really like parts of that song but really dislike others. It's a strange one

    What bits do you dislike?

I can see the "oh-ohh-ohhh-ohhh-OHHH" being grating to some but I love it.

I hate those oh oh's, lol. Also the melody just before the chorus sounds real awkward to me.

    Random non-DCFC question.
Do you feel like your pace/conditioning is better in shorter runs now that you run increased mileage? I've read that the best way to increase pace is to gradually increase mileage, but that seems like an odd concept to me. Would be interested to see if you've noticed an increase in speed when training for the ultra.

I used to be in decent long distance shape and then switched last year to 5k/10k races in order to get sub-20 5ks and now this year I feel like I've really burnt out with the constant short/fartlek style runs I do and I miss my long running where I could just put on music and go without the pressure of splits. I'm just scared to lose the speed I've worked on.

Doing a reverse discog run and I’m on xosss and Keys. Not nearly as bad as I remembered.

"Summer Years" is def my favorite on this, the drumming and bass are so cool, and I love that melody. It's kind of strange too, but it's almost like a sped up version of "Summer Skin" and I wonder if that's intentional or I'm just connecting the names...

I’ve definitely noticed a difference but nothing substantial. If anything, my pace is more consistent and it’s easier for me to negative split my short runs. Just not in a super fast way.

Fartleks are good for faster distance running, but try out other speed work after some runs. If you can use a track, even better. We used to do 400m speed workouts, leg drills for 100m, Hill repeats, and fartleks. It’s good to have variety bc your heart rate will increase and recover faster when you hold a faster pace. Also, I’ve always thought a secret to getting faster was stretching properly and lifting weights 2-3 times a week. It helps prevent injury too.

When I ran cross country and raced 5k/10k, I peaked around 75 miles a week, but I didn’t feel fast just from the mileage. It was definetly the speed work and weights. Gotta get your heart rate up and use to holding a certain speed for awhile.

That review was weird. Starts off with “this is the best death cab in a long time: here are all the reasons it’s bad.”
I also just happened to have the opposite opinion on most of th tracks mentioned.

Its definitely the best Death Cab album since 2015.

  16. I don't think this is better than Kintsugi but I really like its general vibe and sound. really good first-thing-in-the-morning album.

I actually agree with a fair amount of that review even though I really like the album. The parts I don't like about it aren't enough to detract from my enjoyment.

Could be wrong too but I get the sense the P4K review misreads "60 & Punk." I suspect the song is more Gibbard contemplating an aging version of himself, had he not quit drinking, rather than someone specific.

After many listens I can say this is by far my favorite from them since Plans. Also someone said they think 60 & Punk is about Morrissey - but I honestly think it’s about Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth. I could be very wrong though.

The line about "being happier when you were poor" would make sense for Morrissey.
