Anyone else here really wish gold rush didn't have the title said a hundred times in it? Really throws it off for me but I like a lot of the other ideas

I liked Gold Rush okay initially and it still grew on me. I like the record about as much as I liked Codes & Keys on first listen, which I thought was middling but with a few special high points

Jason is a fantastic drummer, he kills it on Summer Years

Your Hurricane is immediately a great song in the DCFC canon

  5. One listen in and this is already more memorable than Kintsugi

  6. Guitar tones on this are wild. "Summer Years" gave me major Cure vibes. Also love "Your Hurricane" despite the squid line lol and even "Gold Rush" sounded better in context. Gonna have to spend a little more time with the middle section of the record. Didn't really care for "Near/Far"

Just got finished with first listen. Hot take: It's alright.

Kind of feels like it never really goes anywhere.

Pretty sure I'll end up liking their other previous, recent, albums more than this.

You’re absolutely right on the guitar tones. I was trying to place what the effect/filter on the clean guitars reminded me of and it’s The Cure. There’s a lot of that on Kintsugi too. My only complaint at the moment is that I wish it were a song or two longer.

I like that this album "doesn't go anywhere" and just kinda admires the scenery. It's really beautiful without relying on forced dynamics, everything feels natural

Gold Rush is honestly the worst death cab song by a mile.

Agreed 100%. LOVE that song. Plus, I find myself randomly saying "Gold Rush" in a hushed tone all the time... it gets so stuck in my head.

  15. i definitely get how it can be off putting but I like the repeated gold rush, it's almost like a part of the percussion. I think it's pretty cool

Really love "Your Hurricane." This is good. I liked Kintsugi a lot, too. Codes & Keys is kind of mediocre though.

Enjoying my second listen of this. At the very least, it’s good background music, and it is definitely my favorite of theirs since Plans even if it’s still noooowhere near as good as I remember Plans being.

Gold Rush reminds me of Ho Hey but I don't necessarily think in a bad way

Listened a few times now. It’s alright. Kind of a snoozer and the songs seem to sound similar to one another.

I was a big fan of Narrow Stairs and Codes & Keys so....

Black Sun is I think the only Death Cab song I actively dislike and skip. There are probably a couple other cuts I never listen to but Black Sun is the only song of theirs I know by name by virtue of how not into it I am. Just a boring song.

This album is...pleasant. Not sure how it fits with the rest of their catalog yet, but it's a nice break from a lot of the heavier stuff I've been listening to lately. Definitely going to be playing "Autumn Love" a lot in the coming months. Love the Cure vibes on "Northern Lights."

easily the best album they put out this decade. i agree about the "gold russhhh" thing being annoying, because otherwise that song would slap. but the rest of the album is pretty solid.

i'm in a band that is going to do a Death Cab cover set as part of a Halloween show -- idk if anyone has suggestions for songs we should play, but i'm open to them for sure.

I once felt this way and I still think Black Sun is too high in the track list, it wouldve fit in better later in the album, but it has redeeming features too, the chorus guitar grows on me and the little drum shuffle is nice too
