  2. Not sure if this was posted yet, but it's really cool to see them play "Title Track."

  3. Revisiting Narrow Stairs now. It's a good album -- certainly a stylistic outlier in their discography, and musically interesting even when it doesn't always hit -- but I think my biggest grief with it is that it just doesn't cover the same emotional ground as the records before it. Lyrically, it has its moments, but most of the time, the decision to experiment musically is front and center (which I understand is probably why so many people love it). But that's why I still think Codes & Keys is the more engaging record, and also why I'm excited to give Kintsugi another spin.

"Cath..." is still top 10 though.

I kinda group the Open Door EP with Narrow Stairs and very much love those songs.

One Fast Move or I’m Gone is also one of my favorite Ben Gibbard projects. 17 year old die hard Death Cab/Jack Kerouac fan me nearly passed out when I found out about it.

  6. I'm listening to the EP now. Weirdly enough, I remember buying it on CD before I even knew Narrow Stairs existed (I wasn't really keeping tabs on bands I liked yet). I spent a lot of time with it right around the time I was sorting out my musical tastes. "My Mirror Speaks" is such a great song.

I love the lyrics on Narrow Stairs, I think it's a step down from the records before it but I think they're a lot better than what he was writing on Codes and at least on par with Kintsugi.

  10. Gonna gush about Codes & Keys for a second. This record is seriously great lol I will never understand the shade it gets. I understand Ben's qualms with making the record, but it's like a natural conclusion to a trilogy featuring Plans and Narrow Stairs. It combines the melodicism and arrangements of the former with the experimental nature of the latter, except it's far more cohesive than NS. The first six tracks are untouchable ("Unobsstructed Views" is an all-timer), "Stay Young, Go Dancing" is as good as (if not better than) "I Will Follow You Into the Dark," and the only track I'd really consider cutting is "Portable Television." I don't have a whole lot of nostalgic attachment to it either - I just genuinely think it's an engaging record through and through. I wish I wasn't alone in thinking this, haha.

Unfortunately, Kintsugi still just loses steam halfway through for me:sleeping:I feel like a lot of the complaints I have about it are probably similar to the complaints people have about C&K.

Totally the same, I think Codes is a great record and Kintsugi was very disappointing (and overrated)

Codes and Keys is fantastic and I still think Monday Morning is one my favourite Death Cab tracks. That album connected with me in 2015 as I wad finishing university and has a load of powerful memories for me, and it's why I'll never say a bad word about it.

Kintsugi I really enjoy but they fucked up by putting the two slow tracks back to back in the middle. If they put them more spread out, maybe making Hold No Guns the penultimate track, it would have gone over far better.

Hold No Guns should just have been cut. Much stronger 10 track album

Wow I'm really digging this. I was pretty skeptical bc the singles weren't doing it for me, but in the context of the album everything works.

“Summer Years” is one of the best songs they have put out this decade

I think the only song that hasn't clicked with me is "You Moved Away", but as a whole, I'm loving this.

I really enjoyed my first listen, excited to dig deeper into this with headphones later. Your Hurricane is an early favorite, not sure I’ve ever heard the word squid used in a song before haha.

Need a few listens of this for it to settle in but so far I'm really into this, '60 and Punk' is their best closer since ''The Ice Is Getting Thinner'

I can’t wait to dive into this. I’m one of those weird people who listens to Death Cab during my morning long runs while the sun rises. Kintsugi is my favorite for that, and the new songs already released from TYFT have been doing it for me big time. Pumped.
