Blue EP was the first sign in awhile for me that this band was still awake and capable of new greatness late in their career.
After a second listen, I’m definitely adding The Flavor Of Metal to my standout list. Love the vocal melody on that one
I don't reach for it super regularly or anything but people referring to The Blue EP (and especially TYFT) as "horrendous," "horrible," etc. are being super dramatic and weird lol. The album proper reminds me more of Plans than anything else in their catalog. "I Dreamt We Spoke," "Summer Years," "Your Hurricane," "60 & Punk"...all great Death Cab songs.
i should go through and revisit all their stuff soon, i havent heard it in a while outside of their metlife my chem set which was transcendent. the singles i heard off this were great though, asphalt was their best in a while so im hoping for even more of that
Just finished my first run. first 4 songs got me so hyped and then got lost in the middle. Need to revisit so heavenly a state again. Ben’s in his bag on this one. Lyrics never disappoint. didn’t love the ending song. Overall 7/10. Best track: I built you a tower (a)
I can’t believe someone called The Blue Ep “horrendous.” It’s a fantastic run of tracks. To The Ground especially is one of their best post-Narrow Stairs songs
I am a fan of Kintsigi. I think it’s one of their better albums. Thank You for Today is fine, I have some fond memories of that album cycle. I enjoy Asphalt Meadows but it’s not something I go back to often. I have listened to this album 4 or 5 times. It’s their best since Kintsugi and possibly Narrow Stairs. I hope they let these songs get loud live.
i listened to this and transatlanticism today, i feel a full discog dive coming on. i always get super into them and the shins when summer hits
I've just listened to the new one once but I'm not feeling it. There are some great moments but also a lot of forgettable ones. I was a little bummed because I loved Asphalt Meadows and wanted this to be at that level
jason is right because this was my assessment after one listen and after five i’d upgrade to this is an extremely good death cab record with many great moments, moments that remind me why i love this band so much
If I really like an artist, I try to give most of their albums at least a few listens before letting myself come to a consensus. There are obviously exceptions but I usually feel like I owe it to the bands I like, not to mention the records that grow on me often wind up becoming my favorites longterm
exactly, also important to give records a try down the road if they didn’t click at first. i’ll be going back to asphalt meadows tomorrow since i barely even remember it
They mentioned in the review that this is their best post-Walla work, which is pretty immense praise from Pitchfork
This is a great example of an album that gets better with each listen. Really enjoyed my first listen, but wasn’t blown away. 10 listens or so later, I very much am.
Everything about the verses in Flavor of Metal - bass line, guitar riff, vocal delivery - all remind me soo much of early era Death Cab.
I fell off Death Cab after Narrow Stairs, but I’m loving this album. The rhythm section kills it. Nick’s always had great bass lines, and I think this is up there with some of his best work. I’m rounding out my ninth listen (I’m autistic and music is my special interest. don’t be weird about it), and the album is definitely a grower! wild that some people are making an assessment after a single spin.
Yeah, I like this a lot. I am interested to see how some of the weaker tracks will click with more just straight listen throughs. I love the title tracks.
