Haha, Aaron is like "What the fuck is Coros and what the fuck is Strava and what the fuck is wrong with you all?"
Or, could I interest you in a 7-day, 257 km run across the Sahara desert in Morocco (Marathon de Sables), where every day is a marathon or more, and you carry your own food, sleeping gear, medical kit, and equipment for the whole race. Only water (rationed) and a shared tent are provided by the organizers. HMDS The adventure of a lifetime
I'll stick with plodding and stumbling my way through marathons, thank you very much, but there's also the Comrades Marathon in South Africa. It's "only" 88km (<55 miles) and alternates between uphill years and downhill years, so you can pick your poison.
I get running a few miles for exercise. I like doing that. Running dozens to hundreds miles at a time can’t be good for you.
"X has replied to the Death Cab thread" Oh boy, lots of replies. I can't wait. What could it be? An announcement? A song? A tour? Oh.
To be fair though, that’s seriously impressive. Makes me slightly ashamed that I got new running shoes for Christmas and planned to get back into it, but have only used them to take the bins out so far lmao
Everything in moderation. Dudes will get concussions and broken bones every season playing football and everyone praises that sport. Yet, I go to a doctor or physical therapy maybe every 2-5 years for tendentious and I get hit with "maybe you're running too much. Cant be good for your knees". Running was treated as punishment for so many people growing up in P.E. and team sports. It feels terrible when doing it sometimes for anybody for sure. But, like anything, over time..... you get better at it with determination, recovery, and some passion for the sport/activity. ......soap box over. lol ------------ Ever since I heard the song "Brothers on a Hotel Bed", I've considered it as one of the saddest, somber songs I've heard. It was sometime after Plans came out. Possibly before Narrow Stairs. I think I copied a friends CD of the album. Song sounds like a breakup you saw coming from a mile away, its finally here. You know its necessary, but it hurts to the core. I haven't listened to it in years, but I used to skip it when it played because it truly just put me in a weird mood.
@Supernova nailed it. There’s this weird assumption that running always continues to feel as awful as it does when you are first getting started at running, or as when you are forced to run as a non-runner. It doesn’t! You’re just not in running shape in those situations, and so it feels strenuous and agonizing and leaves you sore all over when you’re done. But I promise you hit a point where most runs feel easy and fun, and where you feel amazing afterward. My lungs, heart, legs, joints, brain, mood, energy level, digestion, etc. feel great 95 percent of the time, and I run 3,000+ miles a year.
I have never run anything longer than a half marathon, and probably (?) never will, but running is the only exercise that I even remotely enjoy. It’s hard to get motivated, and when I have to force myself out, the first mile is usually not very pleasant, but then I inevitably running at least two more miles than whatever I initially told myself to run because it does end up feeling REALLY good and often fun.
I've been sick and unable to exercise. Hoping I could start back up today but I'll probably give it another day. So this thread was v evil to read through!!
GS:TMT | Speedland "Introducing the GS:TMT, our latest footwear collaboration with Ben Gibbard, which pays homage to Tiger Mountain in Issaquah, WA. A lifelong Seattleite, Ben Gibbard has garnered worldwide acclaim as the frontman for indie rock band, Death Cab for Cutie. A career musician, Ben is also a passionate and accomplished trail runner, discovering creative inspiration during long runs on his local training ground - the Tiger Mountain Trail (TMT). As product designers, we found a kindred spirit in Ben. While we're not musicians, we share a mutual appreciation for the creative process across disciplines -- discovering that building a trail shoe is, in some ways, like writing a song. We're honored to bring this to life with Ben, incorporating design details that are authentically his, including a more aggressive lug pattern suitable for the terrain in the PNW. Pre-order is open now with delivery expected in August. " Portland, Oregon company!
