I’d bet a lot of casual fans wrote them off in last few years given no other “follow you into the dark” type song has come along in awhile. that, plus a pretty subtle roll out strategy means a lot of people don’t know
Raleigh show was interesting. I had never seen them, but it was 10 minutes from my house and I got a $25 pit ticket on StubHub so how do you say no? They moved it to a 21k cap covered amphitheater for weather purposes so it was kind of odd because it wasn't selling well at the 6k venue and it never rained anyway. It was a great show...I loved all of the Asphalt Meadows, it's really sucking me into this band after years of being lukewarm on them. The show was fun regardless, even though Ben referred it it was "playing in a missile silo" because of how empty and echoey it was. Was a night to remember either way, awesome set!
Wheat Like Waves is making a strong case for best track today. That "...from trying to hold them in our hands" part is perfect
Was coming into this thread to post something similar. It’s taken a couple weeks but this album is finally starting to hit. Have been playing it on repeat these past 2 days.. with the new Alvvays songs sprinkled in here and there
Saw them in Charleston tonight and they were excellent. Was my first time seeing them live and damn do they know how to put on a good show.
My long winded Death Cab story: Been into the band since 2002 when I stumbled on the song Photobooth on mp3.com. I've seen Death Cab over ten times since 2003 and are up there as one of my all time favorite bands. They were the soundtrack to this one intense long distance relationship I had with a girl from Calgary (I live near Toronto) many moons ago (the whole thing is documented on a LiveJournal I don't dare let my wife read haha) After that ended, it took awhile to be able to listen to Transatlanticism as a whole let along the title track. I got over it eventually. But the band still was my soundtrack, leading to meeting my wife (now married 11 years + 3 boys in) my oldest son is named Benjamin. He also told his grade 3 class a few weeks ago about how he was named after a singer for the band Death Cab for Cutie. I was very proud. As for this new album. I must say I was hesitant after hearing Roman Candles. Maybe it just threw me off. After listening to the album it definitely makes sense in the grand scheme of things. I will say "Foxglove" is definitely one of their finest moments in their career, and I'll die on that hill. Glad to see "Wheat Like Waves" getting some love as that's definitely one of my favourite tracks. Death Cab always dropping late summer / autumn albums. Gotta love it. Anyways that was very long winded and I apologize. *end rant*
Them choosing to follow up I will follow you into the dark with I will possess your heart in some of these sets is a great progression. It’s almost like their pro’s or something.
somehow never really listened to this band but just heard this and it was super nice. guess I should check out their classics probably!
Transatlanticism is top 5 of all time for me so I’d definitely recommend that one, haha, but Plans, Narrow Stairs, or even We Have the Facts are all also good entry points.
been thinking "I should probably check out Trans" for about a decade now and kept putting it off, seems like a safe place to start lmao
@Rowan5215 Transatlanticism got me through my first break up. Seeing Death Cab play the title track and “The New Year” was very cathartic, healing, and beautiful. I love all their music, but definitely check out Trans, Plans, The Photo Album, Narrow Stairs, and The Blue EP.
I’m excited to see them tomorrow for the first time but looking at set lists and I’m sad at the lack of transatlanticism songs.
I'm def into this, it's not immediately blowing me away but I can tell it's not the most immediate album. wasn't expecting the almost slowcoreish tempo and textures, really different from Asphalt. initial favourite is probably "Title And Registration"
Saw them tonight for the first time and the sounded GREAT. agains though I CAN’T stand people that talk at concerts though. Some dude behind me spent the $50+ to talk through every song besides 2. Why the FUCK do people do that??
Considering it’s Death Cab, it’s a good chance they played in a theater and they had bought a seat ticket so moving wouldn’t exactly be an option there
Yeah last time I saw Death Cab was seated and the woman next to me talked loudly literally the entire show
It wasn’t seated but we found a good spot that my gf could actually see from so we weren’t moving. The better solution is to not talking during a concert!
