I put the Death Cab discography in the same company as Thrice an Jimmy Eat World. Each has a few albums I truly love towards the beginning of their careers and then has consistently put out good albums every few years
Having a meltdown at realizing Thank You for Today came out in 2018. Could have sworn that came out in 2020 as I remember listening to it during the “early” stages of the pandemic and working from home but maybe I just discovered it in 2020. It made finding out that AM was coming out this year a total surprise because I thought that was such a quick follow up to Thank You. Goddamn.
Am I right in thinking Death Cab best straddled thr line between emo, indie and radio pop-rock out of basically any band ever? And for that very reason they have fans and also detractors from all of those listener segments? I got to thinking about it because on Indiecast Ian Cohen clearly appreciates the band from an emo-lineage standpoint (comparing their career to JEW) whilst Steven Hyden kind of sees the band as midwest indie goes mainstream (OC-core if you will) but with emo vocals. Which to me sounds amazing haha
they definitely helped bring emo closer to mainstream in the early 00’s for the 2-3 years that it lasted. those 2-3 years just happened to line up perfectly with S1 & S2 of the OC haha
that's why I said new albums lol I meant like on release. original transatlanticism review was a 6 something i think
That’s a great write up. Especially love the love it gives to Foxglove. Would definitely make for a great set closer
This continues to get better for me, although I don't love "Rand McNally." The "whiskey and Twizzlers" line kinda takes me out of it
I basically like or love everything here but not really sold on the closer. Here to Forever surprisingly has grown even more on me in context, also agree that listening through headphones is a must and the production is beautiful
Vinyl got here! Then I got another shipping notification almost right after the first shipment arrived, which I guess means The Photo Album reissues are finally shipping out? Honestly almost forgot about that one!
