    Got a light?

The highs on Narrow Stairs might be higher than the ones on here but even if I end up feeling that way, I think this is much more consistent front to back

This record is Fire and reminds me a lot of The Silversun Pickups. Probably the best record I have liked from them in some time. Solid front to back.

Pretty crazy that this is their 10th album. Seems like there’s an energy and whatnot here that’s been gone in some capacity the last album, maybe last 2-3 albums.

  6. This is certainly better than Kintsigi and at least on par with Narrow Stairs, if not better

God this is fantastic. Pepper crushed me and following that with I Miss Strangers is *chef's kiss*. Love this so much.

    The rivalry is back on

8 songs I really enjoy, 2 that are Fine, and 1 that’s a skip is really really solid and more than I was reasonably expecting from album 11. Idk if it’s “better” than Narrow Stairs but I also don’t really care since it means we got good Death Cab in 2022

For me, Codes and Keys is the first album where I wondered if they lost the plot. Not horrible, has some good moments, but easily the weakest since Something About Airplanes. Kintsugi, although it has No Room In Frame and Beverly Drive, is not an album I care for at all. TYFT was a good bounce back and a reminder of how good they can be, but still had some pretty low lows.

Then they put out The Blue EP, and even though I could do without Before the Bombs, it had an energy they had been missing for almost a decade. And now we’re here. Will they ever reach the heights they did with Trans/Plans again? Probably not. But this is a fantastic record from a fantastic band. I couldn’t ask for more.

The closer is my least favorite in this, it has that kind of slight feeling…it could be right on the past couple albums. The rest of it hits.

I like a few songs a lot but overall I've just never been able to get into Plans unfortunately. Same with Narrow Stairs. Higher highs than the new one (although Foxglove ranks among their very best singles) but front to back right now I'd prefer this new record.

This is definitely a death cab album. Really liked it on the first impression. I like their last album a lot and this one seemed to hit me harder right away. Hope it sticks!

definitely a better closer on this. That might give it the edge for me.

  15. Idk. I'm not even the biggest Narrow Stairs fan but I love "The Ice is Getting Thinner"

They’re completelyyyyyy different vibes but I view Death Cab like I view The Devil Wears Prada:

They’ve both been going at this for a while now (Death Cab especially) but with lineup changes they have somehow become refreshed/rejuvenated and now they’re writing some of their most exciting material to date.

My entire weekend has been listening to the new records from both bands and I’m thoroughly impressed by both records/bands. Can’t wait to see what they come up with next!

  21. I will say, there's stuff that's not clicking with me immediately, and I mean that in a good way. Obviously it's only been out for two days, but I can tell there are some songs/moments I'm having to chew on more, and I like that. Lately, I've found that the less immediate of a reaction I have to a movie or album, the more likely I am to come back to it and have it grow on me over time. I don't have any strong reactions or hot takes other than that it's very, very good.

Agree. My first listen was honestly a little lukewarm aside from a few songs but it gets better with each listen, it’s all I’ve wanted to listen to today. It really does feel fresh for them.

This album is incredible, front to back.

I went back and listened to TYFT and The Blue EP, and there's probably 10 good songs between the two of them.

after a few more full spins today i kind of agree. i feel like "Fragments from the Decade" would have been a great end to the record but i get that maybe they / others could say the actual closer is a more 'upbeat' ending than if "Fragments" would have ended the record but think the closer is likely at the bottom of my rankings of the album if i had to rank the songs.
