Brief sidebar: both Emma Ruth Rundle and This Will Destroy You were phenomenal. TDWY in particular sounded absolutely pristine and had probably the best sounding live drums of any band I've seen Carry on...
I'm surprised that this is even a contrary opinion. I like NB but it doesn't compete with Sunbather for me.
Alright y'all I love ranking wars just as much as the next person, but let's get down to the real question: odds of a new record from this band this year? They've put one out every other odd-numbered year this decade...although it won't be two years since NB came out until October.
I dunno. I listened to Sunbather the other day and I still feel like NB blows it away. Pecan Tree, Dreamhouse and the title track are all phenomenal, but the slower in between tracks don't do much for me personally.
I read an interview with George earlier this year and he said they've got touring plans until mid-summer and then they're gonna write/record so he said probably sometime early next year
I mean, I don't have a problem with the interludes or the more gazey stuff, but I'm just more of a metal guy in general so I think NB is just more for me personally.
That's a baseless argument and you know it. I'm sure there are people that do think that way, but there are plenty of people for any band who might just prefer an earlier release on the merit of the release itself.
That's my mindset on Deafheaven. New Bermuda has a few decent tracks, but falls off quickly half way through the album. In that light, I'd rather listen to Sunbather. It's not a preference based on nostalgia; it's a preference based on the quality of the release IMO.
