I know some people would find it boring but I would not be mad about an album full of songs like "Black Brick"
Sometimes it's fun or interesting to see a music journalist give their take. As someone who's done that to some degree for 16 years in 'literal nonsense' I'd recommend it sometime.
there’s a direct line between engaging with a review and exchanging reactions on a forum like this…social life emerges from engaging with art together. particularly a review like Nelson’s which is conversational and ecstatic
not to be like this but i watched the audiotree performance of honeycomb and wanted to cryyyy it’s so good
Personally I'd prefer to listen myself prior to reading any reviews but completely writing off reviews all together is kind of daft.
Reviews that only lean on the technical aspects of an album do nothing for me these days but when the author interjects with something personal, whether it's the context given by the act itself about the content or the connection/memories the author has with the act in the first place... I'm all in. That's what draws me to reviews. Don't see how that's much different than what we all do on here. I'd say they serve a similar purpose and more than once I've had my mind changed and/or enhanced about a piece of art. Let's just not dismiss that.
Finished up my first listen. On first impression it's another good Deafheaven album, but nothing really gave me the shivers-down-the-spine feeling of "oh fuck" I get from their best stuff.
Doberman sounds like a song they can write in their sleep and then the breakdown hits and now I’m doing the riff face
