I could see them doing an infinite granite esque EP after having such a “return to form” album this year. Never say no to new DH
my partner bought me this for my birthday a couple weeks back and I was stoked to finally listen again, had only listened once when it dropped and was waiting to listen again for when I picked it up on vinyl. it’s a killer record and impressive in scope. definitely still need more time with it, feel like there’s a lot I am still only scratching the surface with on it. that said, a couple nights back I put my copy of New Bermuda on and it is still easily my pick for best thing they have done. one of my favorite heavy records period. it’s so dark and vicious for most of its runtime but then the melodic moments feel even more serene juxtaposed against that.
Ok, last two songs left and wow this record is fucking dark starting with incidental II. Reading the lyrics made freaked me the fuck out
Deafheaven have never really clicked with me, but saw this on a few AOTY lists so thought I’d give them another go. And I’m glad I did because this is fucking great. Went back and listened to some other stuff and it clicked too. Turns out it’s not just Turnstile that I did 180 on.
Incredible lineup, I’m supposed to be overseas when it’s coming through Melbourne but it doesn’t look like that’s going to be happening so hello consolation prize
a few months back, I got stoned and listened to that song while reading the lyrics and wow it put it me in a weird place
Yeah guess I’d never read the lyrics, that shits wild. I just really like the style of that song, way different than anything they’d ever done.
I’ll leave it up to everyone to seek it out because it’s Craig Reynolds but George’s interview on the downbeat podcast was really personal and revealing in regards to the lyrics and themes of the album.
