I like this. Idk if it lived up to the expectations I had built up after reading some comments in here, but it’s good. Looking forward to spending more time with it and it’s a welcome return to form Would have to re-listen to some of their albums to figure out where this slots among them, but New Bermuda and Sunbather are still my top two no doubt
This is definitely their record that is the closest to Sunbather in terms of style right? Amethyst in particular would be right at home on Sunbather
The pit is going to be a full on dance off when they play body behavior. This album is gripping. It's so good that a friend who hasn't texted me in years wanted to talk about it!
Was telling my friend yesterday that this album reminds me a lot of Roads to Judah in that I don’t think its high match the highs throughout much of the rest of their discography, but I think it’s very cohesive and consistent in its overall sound like RTJ is. I can see where you’re coming from with comparisons to Sunbather too. Regardless of which album, it reminds me much more of their older material than their later albums.
this album has been the catalyst for me to go and listen to their whole discography. was a sunbather fan and saw them during that touring cycle, but admittedly fizzled out. anyways everything since sunbather has been fun! infinite granite is dope and love that i can listen with my kid.
Same. My daughter was 3 when IG dropped and I had “In Blur” on around her and she stopped playing outside for a second to say “this is my song daddy” and I just melted inside. I had “Revelator” on in the car today and she asked me to turn it down. Guess you can’t win them all. But this whole record is just so great. To me it is the logical next stuff based on their body of work thus far, pulling from all of their releases with great reverence and also pushing themselves to expand or enhance what is there.
This is definitely growing on me. It takes a handful of full, focused listens for me to digest their albums. The Garden Route is a rollercoaster of emotions. Revelator is just sinister. The last three songs are a gripping experience. Deafheaven know how to close out albums!
Phenomenal album, it really has something for every Deafheaven fan. It’s like everything they’ve learned and experimented with throughout their entire time as a band distilled and perfected
absolutely loved this on first pass. i kind of tuned out after new bermuda but gave this a chance because of the hype and the cover art. lol.
Enjoying this more and more with each listen. Not sure if I’ve shared some of these thoughts in this thread or not, but I feel like this record doesn’t have as many peak moments as others do in their discography, but I really enjoy the return to their black metal sound and the consistent mood or vibe throughout the entire record, both of which I thought were been lacking with their last couple albums Time will tell just how I feel about this within their discography overall. Early impressions are this slots between OCHL and IG for me. Both of those albums I loved early on during their releases, but have kind of waned for me over time, especially IG. This album hasn’t hit me quite like the last few have, but I’m enjoying it more and more with each listen so perhaps it continues growing and standing out for me over time whereas the last two did now.
'“Winona” is a fireworks display and a Blue Angels air show and a shower of flaming space debris, all occurring at the same time in the same airspace.' - Mike gets it if they don't end the show, or start the encore with, Winona during this tour, that's a huge mistake
Relistening again and got to Incidental II. Now my pipedream is getting a Full of Hell collab record.
