Took an edible and went for a walk with this last night. Saw a deer during incidental III, then Winona came on and made me cry more than any other first listen of a song has. Literally weeping next to a pond in the dark. Initial reaction is that it's their best. Kind of feels like they took Gifts for the Earth (their best song before this) and made it the basis of an album
The galloping/triplets section in doberman that starts 3:34 onward is crushing, through each of its variations. Fucking love it when the rhythm section matches the guitars, especially when those kick drums come in OOF!
Magnolia, Heathen, Revelator, and the closer are the immediate standouts for me after a couple listens. I do wish there were a few more clean vocals, but this is still a very good record.
I am very happy there's only like a minute total of clean vocals on this thing. Also impressed with how melodic a lot of it is considering how heavy the songs are.
I’m at IG hater, but I actually wish there were a little more cleans on this. I also like the vocals he does on Body Behavior, I’d like if he incorporates more vocal styles going forward. also bummed the Interpol singer is just a spoken word feature, it’d be cool to hear him singing over black metal
didnt know they had a new one coming until just earlier spotify notified me i figured itd be alot easier for them to go back to more what they were doing before the last album i liked the last album.kinda was hoping theyd keep diversifying
I agree on the Body Behavior vocals, and the Paul Banks feature. I was really disappointed to find out he's just doing spoken word.
