Interesting they’re on Sargent house instead of anti- now, I know SH has always been their management but still that’s interesting. Also absolutely wild the guy who produced the last two Jimmy eat world records has produced a deafheaven album, my worlds are colliding
He doesn't growl so much as shriek, and IMO his vocals have always been the weakest part of the band (though they did get much better over the last 2 records).
It's like the inverse of Ballou producing Joyce Manor. Anyway, JM-J can do no wrong and this sounds fucking great.
black brick and from the kettle onto the coil rip. i’d imagine even with the albums getting progressively more lush, they’re still gonna dip back into hell with the one off singles
Was not ready for this change but song was really good. I did like the heavy stuff but will still order and listen. Nice direction chnage!
I agree. I have never enjoyed his vocal delivery when he gets “heavy” but the band has always been on point.
Not sure how I feel about this. It's fine? I would've preferred they kept pushing into the heavy but beautiful, atmospheric black metal sound they've been evolving. This sounds like a lot of other shoegazy/new wave inspired bands to me. I'll definitely listen to the album, but I didn't have an immediate desire to relisten to this track.
The more I listen to it I don't think it's that far from their other stuff musically and sonically. The vocals are definitely the biggest change and it's a little bit less intense, especially with the drumming. I think its a pretty logical step forward for them.
As someone who loves metal and harsh vox of most flavors, I think this track kinda makes clear that I prefer this dude's clean vocals to his screams. (They're not bad, just not super dynamic/distinctive.)
