Hell, Honeycomb is probably top 5 for me and Canary Yellow is probably top 10. But then I would put every single non-interlude on their other four albums (plus Black Brick and Kettle) above anything else on OCHL. Worthless Animal has never done much for me unfortunately
I love all of OCHL, their most dynamic album imo, the way it builds and crests over the first 3-4 tracks and then cycles up to that intensity over again. (One of my favorite exercise bike albums for that exact reason haha)
They were good last night, but I can’t help but feel disappointed that the setlist was the exact same one they played back in March and six of the nine songs were in the setlist when I saw them last year. As for the other three, I had already seen them play Sunbather and Canary Yellow a couple times before, though it was admittedly nice to see them play Black Brick again. Idk, would have cool to see Luna, Gifts for the Earth, Glint, Lament for Wasps, Villain, or Other Language. Hell, I’d love to see Baby Blue or Come Back again. I get that they only have so many songs to choose from, many of which are long, but the setlist felt a bit stale to me.
Lucky/unlucky for me I still have never once seen them live but I'm trying so hard to make their KC date in a few weeks work. Off night on the Coheed tour so it's a small theater headliner show
This is where I’m at with this band, especially with how long their songs are and how few they can fit into a setlist as a result. Had the same three-song stretch of IG songs (just placed elsewhere in the setlist), closed the main set with the same song, and had the same two-song encore as they did when we saw them last year.
I think the Coheed tour is big enough for them that they’re really honing in on the songs they’ll be playing for that.
Well, yeah, the five songs they’re playing on supporting dates for Coheed were included in their headlining set. Was just hoping for more variation from their headlining set. Canary Yellow and Black Brick were really the only ones they played that I’d say are deeper cuts for them at this point. The other seven were pretty chalk for them at this point.
First time seeing them yesterday, thought they sounded amazing. Mombasa goes so hard live. Played without Shiv, different guitarist filled in. If I could have I should have tried to see their headline show in Philly last week too. Hard to tell how into it the Coheed crowd was.
I haven’t seen them since Granite came out, so I’m still excited to see them on the Coheed tour. they do seem to keep pretty standard setlists within album cycles, but it is nice that you usually get to hear most of the current album with that.
It makes sense they'd keep it light and airy opening for Coheed. I can't imagine they'd dig back too far into their black metal material when opening up for a crowd of Coheed fans...Infinite Granite is by far the best entry point for them when you're trying to win over that audience.
It’s also their best entry point, period like I’d recommend a new listener go IG >Sunbather>OCHL>NB>RtJ (maybe switch OCHL and Sunbather)
I like OCHL and IG just as much, I couldn't get into this band Sunbather and OCHL it finally started to click
Same here, however Sunbather has a pretty significant impact on the BM community back in the day so it’s important to get that context before moving forward. and those songs are incredible live
I was surprised but they only played one IG song opening for Coheed, I expected at least 2-3, but OTOH I guess their older songs especially can be long, so maybe it's tough to balance out a short set
They were excellent last night. A handful of people around me were really not feeling it but it seemed like most of the crowd was receptive.
Sorry for the no news bump - just requesting that if anyone happens to have or hear about the Infinite Granite livestream being posted anywhere, hook your boy up pls. I bought and watched it twice in 2022, hoped it would exist online somewhere in perpetuity by now but I can’t find it anywhere
my partner is an entomologist who recently led an online course on wasp identification, and every time before a lecture, he'd play Lament for Wasps in the Zoom room.
Love my Uturn, just upgraded a few of the parts on mine. Their customer service is fantastic if you ever have an issue the wood base looks sick on yours
Don't be sorry. What a great album! I fell head over heels for this one. I am very excited for their upcoming album (rumored to be dropping in the second half of this year based on interviews) because they said fans should expect a mix of their older sound and the sound they were exploring on IG which sounds perfect to me. These guys just know how to write tunes.
