Song is great, I'm so excited for this album. Can't believe I'm saying this about a Deafheaven song but the intro reminds me of Viva La Vida era Coldplay (very specifically "Chinese Sleep Chant")

 

y’all being so silly so early in the morning

 

In Blur is the one that's catching me, really fun

 

The vocals are doing nothing for me.

 

This is one of my favorites on the album. Really think it’s best experienced as a full body of work though… so excited for everyone to hear.

 

I don't love the first half of this song, but I like the way it finishes.

Definitely the weakest of the three we've heard so far, to me.

 

Kerry is such an incredible guitarist I could listen to him play anything.

also maybe I don’t listen to enough shoegaze but anytime someone says this sounds generic I’m like damn please point me in the direction of these other bands that sound this good

 

i dont think this sounds generic at all but most people think anything thats remotely shoegaze is just a rip off of slowdive, my bloody valentine, or ride lol. and sometimes it is but there's nothing wrong with that those are three of the greatest rock bands to ever exist.

 

Really loved the ending of In Blur.

 

I think it's time for me to stop listening to these tracks. I can't wait to experience this album as a whole.

 

The other two singles just kind of bored me, but In Blur fucking sucks

 

I like all the new songs, but I do think this direction is significantly less interesting than what they were doing on OCHM

 

right? its almost impossible to make a shoegaze song that doesnt sound like at least one of those 3.

 

I like all three singles significantly more than anything on OCHL tbh. The black metal vocals were really starting to sound more obligatory than anything and not aligned with what they wanted to do musically at all.

 

I know I've posted comments here in the past about Deafheaven being a "false black metal band" or something like that in a joking sense, but after hearing all of the singles - Deafheaven make a damn fine full-on shoegaze band, and this is likely shaping up to be my favorite release of theirs since Sunbather. Maybe even more than that. I'm digging all of these singles more initially than anymore of their black metal tracks.

To focus on something Deafheaven related but not the album- I kinda hope Inter Arma and Greet Death are opening for their tour dates again next year. One of the shows I felt robbed of because of the pandemic.

 

The opener for the LA show is Storefront Church. Not sure about anything else.

 

I like all three songs so far. It's a nice change of pace.
(I don't think it's shoegaze at all but what do I know)

 

Same I wanted that tour so bad I saw them with inter arma years ago which is how I discovered them and it was so good
