Neither of these songs are grabbing me, kind of dull honestly. I think they could've leaned into this more melodic singing style without ditching their previous energy and it would've been way more interesting. The Gnashing in particular feels like they're just going through the motions, doesn't feel lively at all.
Eh. New song is fine but not blown away. Definitely like the first track released more. Still excited for the record.
I like both songs. I can hear the hook they’re going for in this one, I am just not sure if George has the singing range to keep me entertained over 50 minutes. We’ll see. I particularly like the heavy riff at the very end of the track. Deep down, I hope this is their Kid A and they’ll find a way to combine their black metal influences and this new direction for future releases.
FIrst time ever hearing this band...listened to the two newest tracks. Gives me a Interpol meets Deftones vibe, didn't realize JMJ produced this record so that'll be cool. Took a quick listen to some older tracks, def not feeling the vocals on those, is that actual lyrics or is just kind of interpretive screaming?
There’s actual lyrics - and they’re worth looking into. I find George’s lyrics to be thought provoking and compelling.
Interesting you'd mention Kid A. I read an interview with George where he discussed the idea of dramatically changing sound, and cited Kid A as one of their inspirations. The lyrics on their older stuff are good, too, but you'd never know without reading the liner notes. I've already got it pre-ordered, so I'm holding off on any more tracks until release day.
I love his vocals, moreso than most black metal bands. New song sounds dope. I was hoping for some new wave synth stuff but that doesn't seem like it'll be making an appearance.
I dig the new singles and have been motivated to check out this band again and being turned off by the vocals on sunbather initially. I don't really listen to metal/black-metal but enjoy shoegaze, post-rock and post-hardcore and I'm finding out I actually really like this band.
Granted, I’ve only listened to the first two Interpol records, but I’m not really hearing the similarities outside of the vocals. This song rules though
