This song is brilliant. Very into it. Keeps the electronic influences of the last record which isn’t usually what i go to this band for, but this works so well. Lyrics are great as always.
I think this blends the last 4 albums very well. I think Old Souls and Countless Nights are my sweet spots but I also liked Rituals. This is a good combination of all!
Well I am now done with the first listen and meanwhile I like it, and there are some strong songs on this, it does not hit home like Rituals did. Definitely will need more listens to form an overall opinion about this record.
Interesting to hear! Are the singles indicative of the overall sound? I got a Countless Nights with small elements of Rituals from the songs so far.
Yeah the singles are a bit misleading for the overall sound in my opinion, they indeed give me Rituals & Countless Nights vibes but the rest of the songs give me rather Old Souls vibe for some reason. But again it can also be my perception only. I am curious how others will see/hear it.
Excited for this. The single 'Kids' one of my favourite songs this year although I haven't properly listened to the two newer songs as I was saving myself for the album. I love the Rituals sound but if the album overall is more guitar heavy I'm defo here for that
I read an interview recently and it doesn’t seem like they’re a fan of Rituals much which’s a shame as it’s probably my favourite album from them at this point.
It’s their album I listen to in full possibly the least but I still really like it and it’s highs are high.
Not sure if this is the one but they mention it here as well: Deaf Havana: “I’ve never known what we are, but now I’m comfortable with that” "vocalist James Veck-Gilodi described that album as “a slow death” for Deaf Havana. “I learnt so much writing that album but that excitement quickly became cynicism,” the singer’s brother and guitarist Matty told NME. “We had been so focused on pop hooks, the soul wasn’t there.”" Not sure whether this comes from rather having that awful experience about the band falling apart, other circumstances etc. or rather about the songs themselves, maybe both. Still Rituals is my favourite record from them, so it is strange but it is what it is.
Pocari Sweat into 19dreams just gave me chills. I think I’m gonna love this. So far this seems like the perfect midpoint of all their past releases.
Disappointing to hear they seem to not look back fondly on Rituals, I still love that one too. So far though it seems to me at least that they still incorporated some of the more pop sounds of that album here. I’m loving this so far.
Yeah this is insanely good. Really feels like they took the best of all their past albums (starting with Fools & Worthless Liars anyway) and put it all together.
10 minutes to go before I can listen to this! Wasn't Rituals written in the studio by James alone with a producer? I can see how that might feel like a "death" of Deaf Havana as a band. I like that record, but it doesn't feel like a "band" record the same way as the previous 3 does.
Yep this is decent. I noticed the guitarist doing some lead vocals too which was a nice surprise. Especially enjoyed the title track and 19Dreams. The whole album feels like a nice blend of Old Souls and Rituals. The only downside for me is there are quite a few more 'chilled' tracks which isn't necessarily a bad thing but I do like their faster-paced side.
