Lyrics tend to be the last thing I look for on albums; it's the music itself, and the melodies, that my brain is most attracted to, and if neither of those things my brain finds appealing, I'll be turned off by the song. I try not to let one listen of any album define my final opinion, so I'll for sure give this another listen or two
Agreed I used to listen to that album loads in my teens but I definitely prefer what came after it so much more. @beachdude42 is the Kelly Clarkson song Saviour? If so I dig it a lot!
Pure is my favorite track... I actually thought Worship reminded me of Kelly Clarkson haha, maybe it’s just me
Just relistened to Worship again after reading these and yeah I hear it for sure but I also think something about the Saviour’s chorus gave me similar vibes too. Overall very good album for sure! New direction suits them well.
Yeah, I can definitely hear that on Saviour as well. I think it’s super cool how much sonic ground is covered on here.
Haven't had nearly enough time with this album yet, but initial thoughts are that this is good, but maybe not as amazing as I was anticipating. The intro feels unnecessary (just not interesting enough) and the back half of the album feels a little too slow. Maybe the sequencing should've been a little different, I don't know. The only tracks that don't do anything for me are Fear and Heaven. The rest is pure gold though. Saint is next level good. I had way too high expectations of Pure after the Gaslight in the 80's comparison (damn you @beachdude42 ;) Still a very good song though!
Hahaha I wasn't sure if everyone would like that one as much as I did... for me personally it's one of their best tracks. I can agree with the sequencing somewhat, I feel like it definitely slows down in the back half but that might be intentional.
I read an interview where he definitely mentioned the front half being intentionally the breezier happier end and the second half intentionally being darker. Saint sounds like Bon Iver to me, btw.
Yeah that's really cool. Very happy for them, especially after everything they went through after Old Souls. Well deserved. Also, spinning Rituals a lot these days. Even the songs I found kinda uninteresting at first have grown a lot on me. Not to mention how fantastic the production is on this thing.
Yeah even the weaker songs have grown on me so much. Pretty much love every song now. Also, whoever hated on Old Souls is a weak human. Tuesday People and Everybody's Dancing alone make it at least a solid 8.
Honestly, it's front to back fantastic. I think they have put out four great albums in a row now and I quite like their experimentation.
Echoing the people who mentioned how great Old Souls was. One of my favorite albums. Rituals keeps growing on me more and more. I liked it at first, but now I'm starting to love it. I very much disliked Pure and first and last night it just kind of clicked. One of my favorite tracks on the album now. There's just so much variation that you can't get bored of any part of the album.
What happened exactly with Old Souls? Did it just not sell well? If so it’s a damn shame, I adore that album.
Old Souls got to #9 in the UK(Does Deaf Havana even chart elsewhere) which was their first album that did well. ATCN has since got to #5. The negativity was mainly existing fans that thought they were trying to be Bruce Springsteen/TGA
One thing I really hate from the Old Souls album cycle was the extremely negative reaction to Grace Barrett performing with them live.
