Norfolk, UK, based band Deaf Havana. They've put out some of my favourite releases of the past few years. They mix alt rock and pop, and have nostalgic and internally probing lyrics. Video for the lead single 'Sinner' from the newest album:
Hell kinda bored me but I’ll check this out. James is a great singer and I feel like this band deserves more love
Got my advance of this... really really great album. They managed to pull off a pretty significant sound change without missing a step, and this is some of James' most emotionally honest and compelling songwriting to date. Not to spoil anything, but... Deaf Havana has always had great, emotionally resonant album closers to me. This may be their most emotionally powerful closing track ever. A very different ending than on their past albums, and one that brought me to tears the first time I heard it.
A couple other notes: -"Pure" is my SOTY. -One of the other songs, I won't say which one, is strikingly reminiscent of Breakaway-era Kelly Clarkson. Was kind of random, but the song actually rules.
Oh man I REALLY want to hear this. Glad to hear that it's good, and that someone thinks there is a song even better than Sinner which is my SOTY right now.
This album covers a pretty big amount of sonic ground while consistently falling into “pop rock” in some form or another. Yet it also feels pretty cohesive, several tracks reference each other and the whole album flows really nicely. “Pure” is like if The Gaslight Anthem made an ‘80s pop jam, I can’t get over how great that song is.
man Sinners is great, haven't been able to get into much of this band's work but this might be the one
Bumping this thread to again say this album rules and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it. I really think they nailed this one... gonna have my review up near release.
Unless it's streaming somewhere, I'm fine with waiting 2 more hours. This album releasing will be a fantastic ending to my 4 week summer vacation. I'll be going back to the office and blasting this album 8 hours a day. I've already converted a couple of colleagues into DH-fans because of my excessive listening to their discography, heh.
Listening to all the released songs in a row rn...this will be great, and if @beachdude42 says so I trust his judgement lol
