Johns has written some of the most important DC books of the last 15 years. Having his hand on some of these stories is going to make them a lot stronger. He may not have much to provide in terms of cinematography, but he certainly knows what will drive a story and make it work. If he is involved in the overall process the way the Marvel creative team is, it is going to strengthen the franchise.
I have no doubt that Johns will be able to bring great ideas to the table, but he doesn't really have the same authority that Feige has with Marvel. He still has to answer to Warner Bros.
I think the way to help these films are to let the directors make the movie they agreed to when it was green lit. The last two films look like they had studio hands all over them after they were shot which is never good.
I think there needed to be someone with a singular vision of what they want to do with these characters. Aside from the crappy construction of these movies thus far, the franchise kind of suffers from the chronology in which the narrative take place. Which is to say, a lot of the cool stuff has already happened. All of the core heroes of the JLA have already had their origin. Batman, Superman, The Flash, Aquaman, and Wonder Woman already exist. Superman has already defeated Zod. The Joker has already killed Robin. Batman has already fought Superman. Superman has already defeated Doomsday, Superman has already died. The entire ideological debate on the existence of Superman has already happened. I realize that there are an infinite number of stories to tell about these characters. But a lot of the most interesting stuff has already happened. I sense there will be a lot of flashbacks in these movies that will help us make sense of who these characters are and how they operate in the world. There is a reason that most comic book franchises start off with the origin story. It's because it's the most interesting part!!
They could be keeping him a secret, who knows. I imagine WB might still be a little gun shy considering the Ryan Reynolds movie didn't perform very well. They need to save something for the sequel I suppose.
Idk. I can't imagine the emotional stakes of the Affleck Batman movie when he has been Batman for 20 years. It's hard to have a hero's journey when you skip the origin. At least in my opinion.
There's so much material in the comics for them to borrow from, I'm not worried. They'll just be coming at things from a different angle which I'm actually really excited about. I'm really fed up of seeing origin stories at this point.
the movie is going to do great 100% confident enough with marvel so when did DCU started? with man of steel?
hahaha I love Man of Steel and think it's the best of the 3 released so far. It doesn't seem like they planned this shared universe thing when they made it though, besides a few batman Easter Eggs. I love that we have the characters with a long history established. Batman and Flash popping into SS is what I've always wanted out of these kinds of movies. With all the origin stuff out of the way, it leaves us room for Hush and stories like that where you need a character to have a ton of history and be way past the origin state.
This is why I'm excited with the direction they're taking Batman. I really hope they'll eventually make a Spider-man movie with a 25-year-old Peter Parker who's been doing the whole superhero thing for 10 years. It would be so awesome.
That would be nice, but since the other films so far has skimped him being in Highschool I'm looking forward to seeing that for now. I assume we'll get around 3 more reboots in my lifetime though lol so I do hope to see an older Spiderman too.
The Spidey movies so far have been a mixture of high school and college. I don't feel that excited about more high school movies, especially since he only spent around 30 issues in high school in the comics...
I thought in the the movies he was out of HS midway through the first of the films while not spending too much time there? And I guess I'm thinking of the ultimate universe but isn't he in high school for awhile?
He's in high school for the first part of Spider-man 1 and all of The Amazing Spider-man. That's enough for me, haha. Especially since the character is so much more interesting out of high school.
Noooooooooooooo and I hope it stays that way. Too cheesy and too many terrible things have happened in Arrow that I don't want canon with the films. The Flash actor in the movies did say recently he may see TV Flash in the speed force meaning they could exists in different universes but if that happened I'd just take it as nothing more than a nod to the TV series.
Peter graduated high school three years after his debut. For decades, all Spider-Man stories took place in college and beyond. Ultimate Spider-Man dragged out his high school years for a long time (I forget if he was even graduated when he died), and other titles have revisited that time of his life, but less than 5% of Amazing Spider-Man issues actually take place with a teenage Peter Parker. As someone who grew up with the 90s cartoon and comics, my understanding of Peter Parker has always been an adult. As such, this mix of Ditko and Bendis Peter for the MCU doesn't do as much for me as Romita or Stern or even McFarlane would. Thankfully, they're separate, so Supergirl can continue to do the Superman mythos justice while the films continue to have no idea how to use the character.
