As someone who absolutely HATES Killing Joke and would love to wipe it from existence... And who has concerns about this film as far as the type of character it might romanticize... I must say, in all fairness, if they use Killing Joke material as a starting point, it won't be (from what I recall) the awful, toxic part of that story.
Diving into all the Joker's past as the red hood gang could be cool, I agree. If this is not going to have Batman in it at all, I think what you described could be what this is.
Matt Reeves movie is rumored to be based on Year One -- and feature The Penguin and Harvey Dent... Sad news if true. Rumor: ‘The Batman’ will be inspired by “Year One”, feature Harvey Dent
Also like the Synder cut, I never expected that to happen either. WB is going to distance themselves from anything related to Justice League lol. Shame though, I'd like to see it.
Year One would be cool, but I want some variety in the villains we are seeing on screen. I think Riddler could be fun if they really go hard with the detective noir vibes.
Man, I just can't help but feel kind of bad for Batfleck. Being apprehensive to take the role, then taking it and doing really well IMO, and just the shit storm that followed.
Most superhero movies are bad, and most of the “good” ones aren’t as good as other “good” movies that stand out in their own genres. I do not, however, think that’s inherent to the genre. I think it’s a flaw in how studios approach making them.
I mean, not really. Bad is subjective. You also have to think about what they're trying to accomplish. If they're supposed to be entertaining spectacles that don't require much thought then a lot of them are great. It's what you want out of them. It's not fair to compare them to something like Citizen Kane because those are two different types of good made for two completely different audiences.
A lot of the most recent ones are shot really well, have well placed laughs and levity, amazing action and great dramatic moments. I don't know how they are bad by any stretch. A budget and it not being an arthouse film doesn't make it bad.
Which is why I said I don’t think genre is a limitation and didn’t say I think arthouse movies are automatically better than superhero movies and didn’t compare any superhero movies to Citizen Kane
Judging by GLOW, Maron is a much better actor than I ever expected him to be so I'm more than down to see him in more things
Watched The Dark Knight stoned for the first time the other day — had been awhile since I had seen it as well — and have a new appreciation and even deeper love for it. So good.
