The Flash and Wonder Woman is currently what's exciting me most about this one. Definitely agree about Batman though. Ready for more details about that solo Batman film, just to see if we're going to get any backstory with his version. I know there are things we can infer based off BvS, but still curious what's going to happen with that.

I thought I read somewhere a while back that execs were hoping to make MoS2 the Superman movie that everyone deserved, or something along those lines.

Haha apparently not for everyone. Seems like things may be moving in new direction though, so hopefully they'll learn from any past mistakes in future films.

They should have just done that with MoS.

Would imagine that's what they were hoping they would have accomplished with the first one. Seemed like they were wanting to capitalize on a more darker tone given that there was a lot of success with the Nolan trilogy.

It’s almost like treating Superman like Batman didn’t work out. Weird.

Just watched Suicide Squad for the first time to be all caught up before JL. Not as bad as I expected but def didn’t like it that much. Sure i empathize with a lot that i loved Will and Margot. Loved the chemistry between the group. Story/structure/dialogue/hipsdontlie monster were awful

It basically just screamed impatience and bad production like BVS imo. So many stories forced into one movie. If they just chilled out and made solo movies out of deadshot/Harley/katana which I think all could’ve been really good, they wouldn’t have had to spend so many distracting subplots and screen time. Although with that villain idk if the movie would’ve ever been that good.

What I’m confused about is whether I didn’t like or didn’t mind the joker. I didn’t like the direction mostly but I thought Leto played that direction the best he could? Idk

I actually liked this more than BVS though I think just because of Harley and deadshot. I’d have to watch it again. I feel like BVS had more memorable moments but BVS made me cringe more often.

I love his look for the role, but I really hope they don't just throw him out there. His story is pretty great.

I'm watching Man of Steel for the first time in years, and buried under everything is the rough sketch of what could be a great Superman origin film.

The story I would like told sometime is something completely from Lois Lane's perspective. Open the film by establishing who she is, like her personality and work situation and all that jazz. Give her a run-in with Superman, who would quickly slip away after saving her life. This would kick off the main thrust of the film: Lois on the hunt for who this "Superman" is, maybe with Jimmy Olsen tagging along. She'd go around looking into rumors that resemble what she experienced, which would initially lead to a short montage of false flags before the first real example of someone else Superman actually saved. This story would be a perfect opportunity to cut back to this rescue sequence so that audiences don't go too long without seeing Supes in action. More stories would lead to more sequences, which would spotlight a wide range of his classic powers. I'd also want one of the scenes to be some sort of Action Comics #1-inspired example of Superman defending a civilian against corrupt authority, maybe a police officer or elected official. At some point during this whole time, there'd be a conversation with Perry White about how she should just abandon this story.

The middle stretch would be kickstarted by someone's story about being rescued by a classmate, like the bus sequence in Man of Steel. This person would reluctantly give Lois the name "Clark Kent," which would send her to the Kents' home. (You could have Pa Kent be dead, as often happens, or you could have both Ma and Pa still alive.) They would refuse to tell her anything, but her getting so close would lead to her and Superman finally meeting up for conversation. Here is where we would get a very brief look at Krypton and the Kents finding him in the rocket, as well as his discovery of his heritage as a teen after the aforementioned classmate rescue. This interview would, of course, have that whole "this symbol means hope" bit. At the end of the conversation, Lois would be unsure how to proceed.

I don't really like the convenience of Zod finding Superman at the same time Lois does, so for the big third act fight, I would use Lex Luther. There'd be a subplot where Lex catches wind of "the Superman" and tries to find him himself, but for the sake of preserving the Clark Kent identity, he wouldn't be as successful. Around the time that Lois is mulling over her next step, Lex would be causing a ruckus in Metropolis as a last resort to pull this "Man of Steel" out of hiding. Part of me would like this to be Lex himself in his green and purple battle armor, but I also want him to not be exposed publicly as a menace, so maybe it could be a Metallo prototype instead. It could even be both, with the Metallo prototype luring Superman out for a fight with Lex in a remote location. Regardless, after Superman's victory, Lex would have a conversation with him where he establishes a Kingpin-esque confidence in his immunity, with Supes responding that he'll just keep working to bring down all corruption in Metropolis. Meanwhile, Lois would be finishing up an article on Superman that keeps his civilian identity a secret. The final scene of the film would be the same basic first day at the Daily Planet that Man of Steel had, including Lois telling Clark, "Welcome to the Planet."

I feel like close to half of what I described here is a repurposing of what Man of Steel did, and this all started by seeing what that film did. So many great parts sprinkled throughout the film. Snyder and company just didn't bring these parts together into an interesting whole.

(Man, I enjoy plotting out hypothetical superhero films way too much, lol. I just need to practice writing dialogue already so that I can use this energy on my own ideas instead of wasting this energy on overly long message board posts! It's just so much fun to play around with preexisting ideas and focus on the overarching stories, I guess, instead of spending the time making something completely on my own, start to finish. Oh well. Maybe some day.)

Ah, yes. This is why I waste my creative itch on forum posts about movies I don't care for. Because people complimenting my posts releases more endorphins than being a starving artist would. lol.

Your thoughts kind of remind me of how the new Spawn film is going, with it focusing on a detective investigating the paranormal events happening around Spawn and his presence felt rather than in your face.

That's a great approach to take. I'm really curious how the Spawn film will go, with McFarlane himself doing it.

But yeah, I've had a looser version of this Lois idea before, and I've also wished for a grounded noir/crime/almost horror-inspired Batman origin film completely from Gordon's perspective. Something without a super villain, inspired by the Gordon half of Batman: Year One. For these more iconic characters, I think coming at them from that outside perspective is a good way to make them feel fresh and new. Kind of a nice way to get to their roots and comment on who they are without deconstructing them.

  23. Warner Bros. is restructuring DC Films after ‘Justice League’ stumbles
Variety says that Ben Affleck is expected to appear in the standalone Flash movie, but that it’s very unlikely he will star in The Batman. According to their sources, director Matt Reeves wants to cast the role with “fresh talent”. Reeves has been meeting with potential Batman actors recently, most notably Jake Gyllenhaal.
