I hope so. I know this site rags on him but I liked the few times he was on screen and want to see what he can do with more.
Batgirl was a major, highly popular character in the 60s television series. She was a major part of the 90s animated series. She has decades of starring roles in comics. She was central to the Lego Batman movie. If you walk into Walmart, Target, Hot Topic, or anywhere else that sells superhero merchandise to a broad audience, you're a lot more likely to find Batgirl merch than Green Lantern or Aquaman. If you stop a random person on the street and ask them if they've heard of different superheroes, Batgirl would rank fairly high among DC characters. So, no, 98% of people would NOT think a Batgirl film would be a weird choice. And, I love Whedon's quippy writing style, but man, he is not great with women. How someone could call his involvement "nothing but good" especially in light of recent revelations of his gross relations with actresses and the like on set while lying to his now ex wife is beyond me.
You missed what I was saying: Not that it's just wierd to do a Batgirl movie period, but a weird choice before Batman, Flash, ect. I know her history and I love the character, you don't have to convince me she's great. Just saying any bat family before a Batman film is weird and you will never convince me otherwise. You talking about the Hollywood gossip of him cheating on his wife? Yeah that makes him not a good person, but his work is his work and he's good at it. It's not even against the law to cheat, that's between him and his wife. He's a good talent and I don't by into the behind the scenes gossip in Hollywood.
It's not behind the scenes gossip, it's a firsthand account from his wife about the ways in which he manipulated and emotionally abused her. Still, I think Tim was talking about the way Whedon writes and directs women and female characters. Whedon has written some great female characters but has some really glaring issues with the way he writes and directs other women. There are a lot of better options for helming Batgirl than him.
Not aware of any of that, that's a bummer. Like I said above, that makes me a bad person. I think having the banner of "From the director of Avengers and Age of Ultron" will get people who aren't into all the film news excited about whatever he does for DC. Hopefully her disagreement with Marvel didn't turn her off Superhero movies for good. If DC is doing stand alones, it may give directors more control and its a possibility.
So it's not "Sirens" anymore, meaning we're not going to get a movie centered around Harley, Catwoman, and Ivy? Wack...
Enough with the freaking Joker nonsense, my gosh. He's really not an interesting enough character to warrant TWO film announcements in as many days. Also, if Joker takes the spotlight away from Poison Ivy and Catwoman, my gosh do the people behind this suck. Replacing a focus on DC's girl gang film w/ a focus on some dumb abusive relationship is just the worst. I hope Joker is only in the Sirens film so that Harley can have an arc culminating in him getting beat up and replaced by Ivy.
The flash back scenes from SS of Joker and Harley were awesome, glad we may get more of that. Sucks Ayer left.
I'm disappointed there's such a focus on Leto's Joker. Did not enjoy his performance and honestly, don't really understand the hype around the Joker as a character.
I honestly fully support giving Leto another chance. Nobody could have made his lines sound good, and he's a genuinely fantastic actor, so I really believe that if he was in a good movie he could do a great job
Ben Affleck Reportedly Out As THE BATMAN After All; Matt Reeves' Film WILL Be Set Outside Of The DCEU I'm going to go ahead and predict that DC is just going to make multiple universes and their big "Infinity War" movie will be about the universes colliding. If it's not that then maybe they are just slowly trying to create a new universe to soft-reboot the franchise.
I'm stoked for a Matt Reeves trilogy no matter what. I'm just tired of the back and forth. just want a definitive answer on what's going on and I'm fucking sick of rumors and reports
As mad as I am for DC botching their universe, I can't feel bad for them. Their movie's made so much money so they have to know people like them, but instead acted so reactionary to the loud online minority and critics. Now we have this complete cluster. Yay.
Not that I think DC has a plan anymore, but I hope SS 2 is before Sirens. Since we left off with Harley escaping with Joker, that needs to be resolved first in that movie so then when we get to Sirens, he doesn't have to be a part of it at all.
