But, does he have the butt for Nightwing!? Really, though, I'd eat up Diego Luna as the lead of a comic book film, but I think he might be a tad too old for Nightwing? Depending on how soon this project will materialize, he could be 40 when this shoots. If more passionate fans of DC are alright with that, then I'm alright with it, but I don't foresee them casting someone older than around 30. (YES PLEASE to the idea of making him not white, though.)
I still love MoS and really like BvS, but I've cooled off hard on SS. That video makes good points, but I disagree about Superman's characterization. As someone who never really cared about Superman growing up, I've really enjoyed his arc in these movies.
I couldn't even get through the video. SS was a mess but with fun characters. BvS had some weak plot points because they crammed so much in, but still a ton to like about it. I really don't understand any of the hyperbole hate on MOS.
Maybe WB has seen all the critiques and know their cinematic universe is struggling in comparison to Marvel. Maybe they'll look at movies like Deadpool and Logan and see the good that come out of letting directors realize their creative vision. Maybe they'll loosen the reigns? Maybe? We can hope.
Matthew Vaughn makes such biting, satirical, cynical movies. I love them, but I don't want Superman in that tone.
What is the DCEU Superman's psyche? What's his outlook? What's his perspective? What makes him who he is? Honest question. Because through two movies he's basically waffled between "Should I help people? Should I not help people?" and then "I'll help people but people misunderstand me", then he died. It's tragic that Henry Cavill has been relegated to such a slog and mess of a characterization.
Vaughn would be such a weird choice for Superman, but I'd be down. I'd be more interested if he were attached to another character like Flash or GL corps, something with more comedy.
Vaughn had very brief talks with WB to do a Superman movie before they went with Nolan/Goyer's pitch. This is what he thought of Superman, at least back then. As for Superman's characterization, idk if it's because I'm reading more into what I've seen in the movies, but I'm getting a lot more 'in-between' than many other people. His decision at the end to sacrifice himself was the culmination of everything he's experienced beforehand in 2 movies, and I found it emotionally satisfying. I can agree that there's room for improvement in terms of characterization in these movies, but I wouldn't say that they're void of any.
As someone in the minority who thinks X-Men: First Class was a'ight but nothing special (besides Fassbender as Magneto), I'm not sure how I'd feel about him tackling Superman. I feel like there are better choices. Also, funny that he'd be the second X-Men director to go on to do Supes. I'm still all about wanting Ava DuVernay.
And it's not his fault because he's great in Man From Uncle which was unfortunately overlooked because it's wonderful
