Writing, looked up his credits and I haven't heard of anything he wrote previously. Article says a director has yet to be set.

Cool, glad to see they are moving ahead with it. I wasn't sure if this would ever get made with the news off them trying to cram in SS 2, Deadshot, Gotham City Sirens and Batman. So far both the casting and directing choices have been nice from WB on these DC films. Lets hope they keep it up and get someone good.

I'm glad that John Stewart will be the focus of this film (Hal will probably have top billing, unfortunately, but it sounds like it'll be largely John's story). Still, I don't... love this.

David Goyer needs to stop leading the charge with the DC Cinematic Universe. I was really hoping he was getting phased out of Snyder's films and, by extension, the DCCU at large. He's been attached to good projects, but I just don't think he's a good writer, plus his superhero opinions (Martian Manhunter; She-Hulk) are crap.

Geoff Johns should be cowriting this. I know he's probably busy, but he's also hands-on with the DCCU, and also Green Lantern's biggest fan and responsible for his best run. Pair him with an experienced genre screenwriter, and you'll get the best script.

Also, let's get Jessica Cruz in here. Seriously. At this point, she's for DC what Miles Morales was/is for Marvel in terms of characters I'm endlessly begging for.

Hopefully they get a good director. I think this is a hard property to get right, but there's also a lot that can be done.

So excited for Stewart, love him in the books. I think him and John will play off each other well (hopefully.)

The one movie Goyer got phased out in was BvS and it was way more messy than MOS or TDK films though. Who really knows what he contributed to BvS though. I thought I read that Chris Ontario pretty much rewrote everything when he joined.

Geoff Johns was involved in the last GL movie though right? And also a lot of the CW shows which are becoming pretty bad and cheesy. I dunno if I trust his non comic stuff as much lol.

Jessica would be really cool, so would Simon. I really loved his character when he was introduced and how that played out but dropped off the series once Johns ended his run so I dunno if his character is still good or not. If we are lucky, we will see them all since its called GL Corps

Goyer has a cowriter credit with Chris Terrio, and Chris Terrio the sole writer credited for Justice League (with Snyder having a story credit). Reports (which are always sketchy when it comes to comic book films) said that Terrio came in to fix Goyer's mess. Looking at Goyer's filmography and interviews with him, I feel comfortable saying that he's not very good at screenwriting.

Geoff Johns has done some writing for the CW stuff, I think, but he's mostly just a producer. I highly doubt that the CW tone has anything to do with him. He also had a lowly co-producer role in that Green Lantern film, which probably just amounted to little pieces of guidance here and there; it's not a 100% garbage adaptation of the source material, so him having a small role in that film (written and produced by some CW people, funny enough) doesn't indicate his ability. The Wonder Woman film will be the first look at what he brings to the table as a driving force of a film. I still trust him as a writer in general, as well as the premiere talent for Green Lantern.

Simon Baz is cool in Green Lanterns, though Jessica Cruz is the best part of that series. Their buddy cop dynamic (which is the approach DC is taking with this film anyways!) is a lot of fun. The twice-monthly format and a weak art team has held the series back, so much that I think I'm gonna drop the book soon, but the characters really shine through the title's flaws. With how much Geoff Johns has pushed Simon and Jessica in DC Rebirth's Green Lanterns and Justice League, it's too bad he can't do the same here. Simon and Jessica with Hal in a supporting role (and cameos from John, Kyle, and/or Guy) would make for a great film.

Terrio, not Ontario lol. I'm not sure where I got that from. I guess I just have a different view point because of my love of Man of Steel and also I liked Blade, TDK and Dark City. I wouldn't say I'm over the moon that Goyer's involved, but I'm also not dreading it since I like enough of his stuff.

Guy is the only GL I don't care to see lol. I know in the past decade or so they have tried to make him cooler, but I just don't dig it. Hal and Stewart would have been my two picks out of them all anyway. I will chuckle if we see a human GL in the background of OA with a bowlcut though.

Sterling would fucking kill it. A known fantastic actor publicly saying he wants a DC superhero role, and yeah they'll probably pick someone less substantial.

Happened when there was that Donald Glover for Spider-Man campaign.

I think most of the flaws in Man of Steel were in the script, which feeds my Goyer hate. Sure, Snyder did some damage (I think Zoe's death was his doing, and he also struggles to get good performances), but a better script would've done a lot of good. Also, Goyer had merely a story credit on TDK, and didn't he direct the Blade movie that everyone hates? lol. Plus, he wrote Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. I think he's capable of good ideas, but I mostly don't trust him.

I'd be all about Guy in a small supporting role, lol, though not at the cost of better Lanterns. He's hilarious when played off the right characters, as seen in the 80s Justice League International comic.

Oh no, I forgot about Ghost Rider. Why you have to bring that up :tear:

And yeah, I think Blade 3 might be his only directing credit lol. I was more going for the first two that he wrote and I think still hold up. If they do Guy, they need to have the scene of Batman laying him out with a punch. Then later you could do a throwback to rebirth where Stewart gives Batman a punch to the face.

This is a really fun recap. The way they sold it, I'm pretty excited but gotta go in with tempered expectations.

  16. Black Adam is getting his own movie, and Shazam is being "reconfigured" after Dwayne Johnson's meeting with Geoff Johns.

I'm not super familiar with Black Adam. Is he a character that makes sense to lead a film?

Weird decision, but a comic book film starring The Rock isn't really a bad thing.

  18. I don't know much either. He was supposed to just play the antagonist in the Shazam movie, but it sounds like the studio figures since Dwayne is a big enough star, that he should just get his own movie. I'm curious, at least.

I don't really know anything about Captain Marvel or Black Adam. Their stories seem pretty convoluted.

The series 52 introduced me to Black Atom and his follow up book WWIII was really good. He is an anti hero, he's not straight up bad from what I can tell (there's obviously so many more stories out there) but he just kinda does everything for himself. This was bound to happen since Rock is cast, but it would have been a nice change to see him just be a straight up villain and not make him a likeable anti hero like Deadshot or anyone in SS.

Just like I think SS should have taken the plot from Assault on Arkham, the animated film where Superman and Shazam battle Black Atom while also doing a good origin story would have been what I'd like to have seen though.

  23. Gyllenhall is the best actor out of that bunch, but idk if I could see him as a superhero. I'm leaning towards Armie Hammer. No way Ryan Reynolds would do it ha. Would his Deadpool obligations even allow him to?

If it has to be a white guy then I want either Ryan Reynolds for the lols or Joel McHale because of Community.

  25. Ya, John Stewart would be cooler.
