lol. I thought for a second, "Yeah, she could do a really good job!" before remembering that already happened. Too bad they're probably unwilling to use someone who played the part in a previous continuity; I'm in the camp that does not like TDKR, but she was a clear highlight throughout that film.

I liked it but didn't love it and felt like it was a weird finale to the trilogy but she was fantastic and I'd like to see her back for sure!

Guys, all of this is a terrible idea. All this shows is that WB is just being reactionary and not sticking to any sort of plan. I doubt the back end of their slated movies like Green Lantern, Shazam, Cyborg will ever come out and keep getting pushed back.

Are we going to get answers to the desert scene in BvS with Flash? Since JL 1 will be Steppenwolf as the villain, will we ever get Darkseid? Pushing all of this off because SS made a bunch of money and Deadshot/Harley Quinn were well received is a bad idea. How about getting Flash together instead? These projects take years to do so all it's doing is fucking with whatever story they are trying to tell in the universe.

It's making it so hard to be positive about DC films, they may have broke me :-O

Really enjoyed Anne Hathaway as Catwoman. Definitely excited about this team-up with Sirens, but hoping it's done right.

Darkseid will happen as long as JL makes back its budget and then some. They need to sort out the stuff with the individual stories. Let someone have some control and run with it. Studio interference is what fucks these things.

Part of me wants to reply with good things to say about the DC Cinematic Universe, just so people start questioning if they stumbled into Bizarro World.

The only way Steppenwolf in JL is a good idea is if Darkseid comes in for the third act but has been held back like Doomsday initially was. I could see teasing Darkseid if they had a good Loki-type villain in the meantime, but especially with how long Thanos has been teased, and with him finally getting into the action half a year after JL, this is a really weird time for DC to show "restraint."

IMO this is just what it is, Studio interference. Snyder obviously had a plan to build this whole world out and have the stories flow through all the movies, but the studios got weary due to response of BvS. I just can't see how introducing Catwoman and Poison Ivy in a non Batman movie will sort out any of the mess the DCUE has gotten itself in story wise, it'll just add to it.

Haha, there are a ton of good things about it but the fact that they have no plan bothers me so much. I hate comparing the two, but dammit Marvel has a plan and it's worked out perfectly. They know what they are working towards and as much as people want a Black Widow solo or FF4 back, they don't derail the main thread of stories to shoehorn in a new solo movie.

Could you imagine if they started doing something like that with Darkseid early though? The internet nerd community would reign fire on DC for just stealing the idea from Marvel.

True, and I don't even know if I want them to show restraint anymore because I have no idea how long this DCEU will last. If they don't do Darkseid in JL, part of me thinks "will we ever get him?" and it shouldn't be like that. I don't want this universe to beat itself into the ground and have to be rebooted, the cast, they way the world, the way the costumes all look and all the universe it has set up is awesome! I was hoping BvS had plot issues because "we need to fit all this in one movie so we can get it out of the way to move forward" but now it's just clear they have too many cooks in the kitchen and would rather play the short game of "what's popular now and will get us the most money" rather then "what will be a good movie and set our universe up"

The problem is that DC didn't have a singular guiding artistic vision for the longest time (no of course Hack Snyder doesn't count). When they announced that Geoff Johns would be overseeing the DCCU, I was thrilled and thought they finally put someone in control who gets the material and can basically be DC's Kevin Feige. Now it just seems like WB is back to its incessant meddling again. I don't think they're ever going to learn.

I feel like Geoff Johns doesn't really have full and even a ton of control, but rather just a name to throw out there as a PR move. "Look guys, JL has laughs in it now and Geoff Johns is in charge now!" Hack Snyder? Cute. The world Snyder created is amazing. Everything anyone likes about this universe was created by him. The Extended cut is leaps and bounds over the one WB cut up.

Right, clearly that is the case and we know that now. We didn't at the time though.

I don't quite agree with this. Marvel has a big picture that they're working within, but they also added Spider-Man: Homecoming, moved Captain Marvel from before to after Infinity War, added Ant-Man and the Wasp, dropped Inhumans, and added an untitled Spider-Man sequel after initially announcing their slate. Before a couple of those decisions, they also could've added a Black Widow or Fantastic Four film to this release window.

I'm all for DC shuffling things around. I just hope that there's a good sense of pacing and overall direction going on behind the scenes.

What, bring in Darkseid early? If they tease him further without him showing up, that has a better chance of being viewed as imitating Marvel than just letting him come out of the gate swinging. My brother, who loves the Justice League and really liked BvS, wants Darkseid and hates the idea of Steppenwolf as the main villain.

It's not like, once they use him, they have to kill him and move on. Have Steppenwolf attack. Have the Justice League assemble to defeat him. Have Darkseid turn the tide in the third act, only for the tide to turn again with a third-act reveal of the resurrected Superman. Darkseid goes home and teases a potential return, but not in the next film (so they can mix things up).

Hmmmm, how did I forget about Spiderman and Antman/Wasp? I didn't know Captain Marvel wasn't a part of their slate before hand either. Maybe I'm more worried because DC is doing it sooo early instead of Marvel who waited until Phase 3 to do it when they had everything going. Now I don't see why a BW movie isn't happening.

I'm not for shuffling around at this point because like I said before, does that put GL Corps, Cyborg and Shazam until 2025? Will the Rock even stay on for that long? I'm for them moving Batman in front of JL, but to add 3 other movies worries me when they can't even get the Flash going who I'd guess is a big part this universe. Catwoman and crew are great, but can't they just pop up in Batman, SS and really any other movie instead of taking up 1 of 2 movies per year?

I'm with your brother lol, and your description would make an amazing movie.

  17. Marvel has a strong enough foundation for their cinematic universe that they can shuffle things around a bit and most people won't mind. Having Darkseid this early definitely hasn't been earned. There will probably be some tease or an allusion to him in JL, though.

Captain Marvel was initially announced but changed its date when Spider-Man was announced. So did a couple other movies. I forget the specifics, but I think the order shifted with one of these announcements.

Some of these films could be combined, and some of the recently announced films could be coming down the road. There's a lot of uncertainty. I'm guessing at this point they're developing a dozen films so that whatever films are naturally ready sooner can take the earlier spots.

I really don't think the introduction of a major recurring threat needs "earned." Doomsday killing Superman wasn't earned and was a crappy waste, but Darkseid showing up would work just fine.

I think I remember Thor 3 being pushed back for
Spiderman now that you mention it.

I'd love for them to just combine it all into SS 2 lol

Doomsday killing off Sups was a little better in the extended cut because you saw Superman's struggle a little more, but yeah I think he was ultimately killed off because Snyder wanted Batman to be the one to get the JL together. I don't think Doomsday was wasted though, just that the death of Superman was un earned. Doomsday is just a brainless monster with no character, perfect thing to bring the trio together.

I'm a lot more interested in Gotham City Sirens than I'd be for any hypothetical Suicide Squad 2, though recruiting David Ayer for it (essentially turning it into Suicide Squad 2) majorly derails that excitement. Introducing Poison Ivy and Catwoman through Harley Quinn that way keeps things fresh while still using what's come before, and also frees them up to go in another direction with their Batman films. I do agree that getting a Deadshot film in the next few years would be a waste, but maybe they could have him show up elsewhere.

I think Doomsday was wasted insomuch as he's never been useful for storytelling purposes outside of a Death of Superman story, and that specific premise was wasted here. No matter what the extended cut added, killing Superman before he's truly established was a terrible decision. If they had just left that out, Doomsday could have been a perfect villain for a Man of Steel 3 or whatever. That's not one of my top choices for a story, but it does have a lot of potential that now can't be realized.

I still stand by Metallo being a far better choice for the unifying third act threat. The introduction of Kryptonite leaves room for that, and an easily controlled mechanical threat makes far more sense for Lex Luthor than, "I hate that Superman is basically a god, so I'm going to respond by making an even bigger god that I have even less control over!"

@Tim absolutely! Metallo would have been amazing. Imagine if that guy in the wheelchair who blew up congress became Metallo. He has motivation and it would make way more sense for Lex to create him other than a monster whose first act is to try and kill him.

Scoot should have been Metallo and the villain of the film. Hugely missed opportunity.

Also, with Metallo, Batman could have maybe assisted more in the fight instead of just giving Sups and WW one of these.... [IMG]

Hmmmm. I know nothing about Justin Rhodes, is he writing too or directing? And I know Goyer gets a bad wrap, but he's done enough good writing work for me to still have faith.
