Hm. I've actually really wanted a movie called "The Batman" for years, but always envisioned it as the perfect name for a grounded, noir take on the character.
I'm not sure that I agree. I'm more excited for this than most DC films on the horizon, but a film where Batman faces off against Deathstroke probably won't be a "noir take" on the mythos. It'll be something really cool that we haven't seen yet, but probably more akin to Nolan's universe than the urban crime film I personally envision with that name, lol.
I want to see something more in line with Hush or Calendar Man. Those could be really awesome. Not sure they'd be the blockbusters WB wants though.
My dream "The Batman" film would be a standalone, relatively small budget crime noir film completely from Gordon's perspective, or at least his and the criminals', without any big costumed villain. Something to really play up the urban myth aspect of Batman. Basically, I'm envisioning a Year One adaptation with Bruce's perspective removed. But, I know that'll never happen, lol. I think my preference for the Batman spinoff of BvS/JL would still be a Hush/Long Halloween-style tour through Batman's rogues gallery, maybe even with Riddler as the mastermind at the end like in Hush. (Uh, spoilers for a decently old and beloved comic? Oops? lol.) Or, something akin to Snyder's recently launch All-Star Batman series. It'd satisfy DC's obsession with throwing everything and the kitchen sink into every film, but do so while still crafting an effective narrative. Whatever brief villain(s) got the most excited response could be expanded down the line. Though, I'm also still happy with what we seem to be getting. Batman vs Deathstroke will lead to the kind of awesome action sequences we haven't really gotten in a Batman film (though Rises got the closest).
This will probably be a very unpopular post but I kind of hope Joker shows up, I really want to see Leto get more screentime in what I'm assuming will be a good movie
If they insist on using Joker (who I'm not too interested in anyway), I hope they borrow from DC Rebirth and say that there are multiple Jokers, just so there's a convenient way to never see Leto in the role again.
That would be soooo confusing and take up too much time in a 2 hour movie. Leto's Joker was fine and I want to see more. I think he'll def pop in, if not just like Batman popped in and out in SS.
I'd assume he's under contract so he'd have to if they wanted, but yeah he seemed pretty unhappy. They did shoot a ton of stuff with him that will never come out, so if I were him I'd feel ripped off too after seeing what they cut.
Also he put in so much work to prep for this and obviously loves the character of the Joker. I'd assume even if he is unhappy with how his scenes in SS turned out, if they write an awesome part for him to go up against Batman in the next film he would jump at the chance to do more with the character.
How would that be confusing and take up a lot of time? So far, the reveal in the comics has only taken up maybe a handful of total pages, lol. All you need is one scene where Batman notices that Joker was in two places at around the same time and do some quick detective work. Or, even just bring in the new Joker initially without explanation. The quicker that he gets out of the role, the better. It's crazy how literally every previous actor for the character has been great, and somehow Leto found a way to give such a irredeemable garbage performance. It was so bad that, when my one friend and I laugh or see someone laugh, we sometimes acknowledge that we were doing a better Joker laugh than Leto.
The reveal has only taken up a little bit, but what about the explanation of why and how? I don't think they have yet. Average movie goers wouldn't like it or get it IMO but I'm sure if DC was serious about it, they would probably find a way. I know a lot of people here hate Leto's Joker as well as critics, but from what I've heard the majority of people (the ones who kept seeing this movie to get it close to over 700 Mil) liked him. I really doubt DC is going to change him.
They haven't explained "how" yet, but who knows how much they will? Or even that they need to? How would knowing that there's more than one, without knowing where they came from or who the original was or if they interact at all, be any more confusing than Ledger's Joker having no clear origin and multiple stories given? I'm not speaking to the odds that the studio wants to use him again (though, if they don't like their experiences with him, that plus cost of bringing him back could affect their decision, depending on contracts, etc). I'm only speaking to my desire to see the character not be garbage if we have to see him again. And, I'm not gonna get into that whole "if it's popular then it's good" nonsense, lol. Besides, I'm pretty sure Harley Quinn was the biggest draw in the film.
Most of the people I've talked to were indifferent to 'I liked it' with Leto's Joker performance. I thought he was fine, but his character had some garbage lines and bad writing overall. I wouldn't mind seeing him pop up very briefly.
'The Flash' Movie Loses 'Dope' Director Rick Famuyiwa (Exclusive) “When I was approached by Warner Bros and DC about the possibility of directing The Flash, I was excited about the opportunity to enter this amazing world of characters that I loved growing up, and still do to this day. I was also excited to work with Ezra Miller, who is a phenomenal young actor. I pitched a version of the film in line with my voice, humor, and heart. While it’s disappointing that we couldn’t come together creatively on the project, I remain grateful for the opportunity. I will continue to look for opportunities to tell stories that speak to a fresh generational, topical, and multicultural point of view. I wish Warner Brothers, DC, Jon Berg, Geoff Johns, and Ezra Miller all the best as they continue their journey into the speed force.” Shit.
Dang it. I had just gotten myself really excited for that film, in spite of initially struggling to get excited for a Flash story without Grant Gustin. Hopefully he gets picked up by another comic book film studio.
Man that statement is a bummer. His line in there about continuing to search for films with a "fresh generational, topical, and multicultural POV" has me excited for what he was wanting to do with the property. Now I'm worried we're gonna get a bland Thor-esque film.
Funny, since it looks like Taika Waititi is doing something interesting with that Thor franchise. Hopefully someone lets Rick Famuyiwa do the same with another property, and hopefully the third attempt at getting this film a director also pans out.
