I'm not home right now or else I'd just flip through the book, but he wasn't mentioned in the recap I skimmed through so you're probably right
This comment and the recent delay give me the feeling that they’re going to start inching this direction.
If they are changing it, they have to be basically retooling the entire thing, which would kind of go against what Matt Reeves seemed to have wanted with his trilogy. Reeves said last year his universe bordered on the fantastical. The DCU shatters that border. Lol
They don't have to retool anything. They can drop Clayface in the middle of the current Gotham and it would not change one thing.
They’d just be retooling what Matt Reeves has said his plan for his trilogy and universe were. Not sure how him saying he didn’t want to get into the fantastical stuff and then somehow being in the DCU wouldn’t be total whiplash and contradictory to everything he’s said.
Regardless of what he has said, I don’t see how they couldn’t fit this iteration of Batman/Gotham into the DCU. There is nothing that we’ve seen in The Batman or The Penguin so far, that fantastical elements would contradict. I think it would work, and I’d be fine with it, but I know I’m in the minority.
It’s less that it wouldn’t fit The Batman and more that it contradicts what Reeves has said of his vision. Also, Gunn said we would get Damian as Robin While it’s not impossible for them to still do that with Battinson, going from a year 2 Batman to that is quite the jump time wise.
I didn’t say it couldn’t work. Obviously it’d be super easy to just drop that stuff into that world. But again, that goes against what Reeves has said about his trilogy. It wasn’t meant to go into the fantastical. That’s my point. Not if it can, but if it should.
His introduction is next level. I love time travel. My dad has already passed when I first watched it. I was so IN haha
Reeves can do his grounded trilogy and someone else can do the other stuff. I still disagree that this would change anything he has planned, unless he wants it. That said, I really wish someone would step up and stop with the "Batman but totally realistic and absolutely nothing else" angle. The great thing about Batman is you can have exactly that but also have mud creatures, giant bat men, and man-eating plants. You can have both! It's comics!
But the plan is for us to have both! Hahaha edit: I do agree with you to actually be clear though. But no reason to make Battinson into something he didn’t intend it to be from the start. Just give us two Batmen imo.
I still think Mr. Freeze will be in one of his next movies. He said borders on fantastic. Some of his rogue gallery is a lot different than universe with alien god being allergic to rock candy.
Comics in shared superhero universes have managed to tell more grounded stories in spite of taking place in the same country as Metropolis or whatever for years. If they pivoted to that route, they could surely still find a way to get to The Batman Part Three (in a decade) without Reeves' movies ever including aspects that disrupt his intended tone. It does feel like all the "evidence" is pretty baseless, though. That Reeves statement feels like a very diplomatic way of saying, "that's not what we're doing as of now, but I know that corporate environments change all the time; if that happens, I'll see if I can make it work before quitting." Having just watched his Variety Directors on Directors with Zoë Kravitz, I really do believe that the delay is just a matter of giving Reeves more time without the pressure of a set release date and cast & crew on hold. Especially with Gunn's desire to have a fully finished script before greenlighting anything. Also, the angle Gunn was initially leaning towards was an established Batman. You can't really do Damian Wayne or Teen Titans with this iteration, unless you... idk, say it takes place in the past or whatever, lol. Not that I personally care if they commit to doing those things, but. It's a pretty big hypothetical pivot all around.
Wouldn’t be mad if they just make it so the DCU takes place like 5-8 years after Reeves’ trilogy. Just age Pattinson up slightly when he shows up in those movies.
Also, and this works both for and against folding Battinson into the DCU, but the vibe I get from Gunn is that he is completely unconcerned with connecting the projects in the same way as the MCU. So you could say The Batman takes place in the same universe but still treat it as its own thing until you don't want to anymore.
‘IF’ Pattinson is brought over to the DCU I wouldn’t be surprised if Brave and the Bold (and the story that surrounded it) is just cancelled and The Batman II takes the spot in the DCU film line up. No Damien or older Batman. Just continue the reeves story and have that Gotham exist within the DCU. Maybe that’s why we haven’t gotten any updates on brave and the bold other than a delay. It may just get replaced by The Batman II.
Ultimately, I care about movies, not brands or cinematic universes, so if Reeves manages to make more Batman that I like, I’ll be happy regardless. But, there is a part of me that likes the idea of a Bat Family already existing to be played with (even though the current Brave & the Bold director means I don’t wanna see that movie). And, I also like the idea of Reeves having the freedom to end up wherever he wants, without it leading into The Big Shared Universe Franchise Machinery long term.
