They've never been on a ton of lists, though. I don't remember seeing All Your Favorite Bands or We're All Gonna Die on many (any?) lists either. Maybe American Songwriter, I guess. Only list I've seen this on was the Uproxx country/folk list: The 20 Best Folk And Country Records Of 2018 I really like this record. It's in my top 15. It's maybe my least favorite from them, but "Crack the Case" and the last two tracks are all-timers.
Yeah maybe not a ton of lists but I feel like I usually see them on a handful, or at least the ones that kind of lean toward the americana side of things. Just seemed kind of odd to me, bc this is still a solid album from them.
This album is definitely one of my top albums of the year, but I can also see it flying under the radar for someone who is not already a fairly big Dawes fan. It is pretty subtle and understated, and the musical flourishes that get me every time I listen to it aren't necessarily the kind that jump out and grab the casual listener. For me it gets better and better every time I listen to it, but in fairness I did cut one song and I have a live version of "Telescope" swapped in for the album track.
Love those song names - particularly "Between The Zero And The One" and what I think says "The Last Stop in El Dorado". Extremely excited for this. These guys do not have a bad album.
Noticed "St. Augustine At Night" doesn't appear to be in that picture... I like the live versions of that song, hope its on the album
Apparently Dawes have already completed a new album with Dave Cobb! Taylor Goldsmith Reflects on 10 Years of Dawes as Band Heads Back to ‘North Hills’
the little livestream taylor did with mandy was pretty great. lost my mind when he pulled out a to ramona cover.
This one comes from the ‘Passwords’ sessions produced by Jonathan Wilson in late 2017. Didn’t seem to fit that batch of songs at the time, but happy to give it a life of its own now. A silly song about the irony of how much we depend on our pets love, considering that a lot of them would bolt if just given the chance.
This was released when the album was released...not sure how though? Maybe as like a bonus track with the LP? I've had it since the album came out, didn't realize it wasn't out there at all.
Think you’re both right. Someone ripped the vinyl 7” track and the b-side was a live version of Crack the Case
This live album was previously only available on vinyl and only sold on a European tour. Hi. In the midst of all this changing and learning and growing we have decided to release Live From Richmond as a digital download on Bandcamp with 100% of our proceeds being split 50/50 between Reform LA Jails and BLM Los Angeles. Please check out both organizations if you have the chance. Yesterday someone I admire told me that this is the first time they have felt hopeful in years. I’ve got a lot of work to do and this is barely just the beginning....but I feel hopeful too. And that feels so good. I hope you enjoy the music. - TG
Think some live songs are floating around like St. Augustine At Night and Between the Zeros and the Ones but only interview I heard was from last year so they might be sitting on it. https://variety.com/2019/music/news...ersary-taylor-goldsmith-interview-1203344885/
Yeah there are at least 6 songs they've played live that've ended up on YouTube. St. Augustine, Like A Kid, Between the Zero and the One, Didn't Fix Me, Me Especially, None of My Business.
