Is it this book? Literally saw it today in Fopp and was going to pick it up as a Christmas present (to myself):
station to station ziggy stardust low blackstar heroes let’s dance the man who sold the world hunky dory scary monsters earthlings the next day young americans heathen aladdin sane outside lodger black tie white noise diamond dogs hours tonight reality buddha of suburbia space oddity pinups never let me down david bowie Spent the last week listening to every Bowie album, some of which i listen to as frequently as biweekly/monthly and some ive probably only heard once prior. These are my rankings. Main takeaways were how good Blackstar and Earthling were for where he was in his career when they were released and how overrated/disappointing Lodger and Diamond Dogs were, for the same reason
I still have a ton to hear from him, but: Ziggy Stardust Low Station to Station Let's Dance Hunky Dory Diamond Dogs Aladdin Sane
appreciate the high-ish placement for Black Tie White Noise underrated album for him in his later career
Earthling is so good I feel like it was his version of trying to approximate the NIN sound into his style after having just come off tour with them Have no idea if that's a real thing but just what I hear in some of the songs
trent worked with them on im afraid of americans, which was a holdover from the Outside, era. and he remixed another song off of Outside, so yeah, that makes sense
I’ve been meaning to listen to that one for ages. What I’ve heard from it hints that it could end up being one of my favorites from him.
Earthling and Outside are the two I haven't heard that interest me the most. Any time something from either album pops up on shuffle, it usually blows me away.
I've never really gotten into Outside or Earthling, with the exception of "Strangers When We Meet" which is perfection
Blackstar remains such an incredible achievement. What a way to cap off a career... I still have trouble putting into words how this album affects me, it's really something.
Always Crashing in the Same Car - A David Bowie Mix by Patrick Haynes i made this playlist for him a few years ago and it’s maybe my favorite playlist ever
Starting my Bowie journey tonight. Not doing it in any order, though. Starting with Young Americans and Station to Station too, so there’s not much sense to the order haha
Give Low the time and respect it deserves. Also, keep it in perspective that it came out in 1977, and there were then 1000 different bands and records that came after over the next decade that tried their own spin on it.
Very very interesting record to start with. I haven’t ever been able to get into it. Station to Station is one of my favorite. I would start with Ziggy personally, but there’s a lot to love on every record/era. Get ready for a wild ride!
Started the Berlin trilogy last night. Only listened to Low, but it was damn good. Quite an unexpected listen too. I obviously only knew his most famous of famous songs, so the more experimental nature of some of the tracks and the instrumentals took me by surprise. I mean, I shouldn't be surprised considering it was done with Eno, but still.
