Gata is by far the best character on this show. He really is the only character that I feel for. Like last nights entire episode with the dead cell phone had me worried for him. Then the ending was fire. Now I feel like its going to cause a major riff for him and Dave.
Like this show but I'm scared for his friends that Dave is not different in real life than he is in the show lol
Yeah that ending with Gata on the car felt soo cathartic. Seeing him in the opening minutes not even being able to get his friends to listen to the whole song to seeing those kids lose it for him at the end was a W that I couldn’t love to see more
there's an episode of benny and matty's cooking show where Dave is a guest in it and honestly, he came off realllly boring and reserved haha
You get a nice taste of the Benny and Dave relationship in that video. Them calling each other Chuck had me cracking up.
Echoing that Gata is the highlight of this series. Everything with him in this last episode was really great, that whole segment with him trying to charge his phone was so weirdly intense. I really think the dude has a future in acting, he's wasting his talents if he's really just Dicky's hypeman in real life The rest of this episode was really great though. Santino continues to be really funny in this role and I'm really enjoying watching Taco become a good actor, although they may have slightly overdid it with his character becoming an asshole in this one
In my opinion, this weeks episode (Doja Cat) may have been the least interesting episode of the series. Bums me out even more too since last weeks episode ended on such a high note with Data and they completely ignored that.
I actually like it quite a bit, I thought Doja Cat was actually a pretty natural actress and the writing was pretty solid. I had a visceral reaction when he sent the screenshot back to her lol Dicky really doesn't seem to mind making himself look like a dumb asshole in most of the episodes of his show though, that ending was painful
I agree I really enjoyed it, The phone UI device they used on screen was super effective in giving you that feeling of a million different things going on while your phone is blowing up. Couple clever pump fakes in there too
being able to see Doja's side of things when she was super fucking busy, but actually getting ready for the date at the same time seeing Dave losing his shit was super effective
Man I loved this episode. As much as I love some of the unconventional storytelling this show pulls off, I think it needs straightforward narrative stuff like this every so often to keep it grounded
but even so, this wasn't THAT straightforward, as 50% of the dialogue was via text bubbles on the screen
Another strong one this week I think, one of the things I love about this show is the depiction of very specific parts of modern hip-hop culture that you don't see anywhere else, like the XXL Freshmen stuff this week. Also really cool how he actually got most of his real class to be on the show besides 21, Uzi, Paak, G Herbo and Kodak, Dicky is clearly very well-liked in the industry. Kind of brings up the question though if all of these guys are supposed to be blowing up in the show later than they did in real life just like Dicky is though lol
