Set list changed a little tonight. I’ll post full set later but we got Belle of the Boulevard and Remember to Breathe. No The Better of Me or We Fight.
This was the only full song I filmed. I was gonna film like 3 more but I got carried away in singing along with a new friend I met there. Oh well. The songs I was gonna film have plenty of performances on YouTube already anyway.
Yea… he was… hyper. He kept yelling for Punk Rock Princess. When Andrew finally played it he was completely baffled at the fact that it was a slower tempo. He kept rushing the lyrics. Very funny, especially after the start of Holiday From Real and the crowd had no idea how to sing it with the slowed down intro.
Alt Press is really all about publishing terrible album rankings. Every Dashboard Confessional album ranked
Woof, that one might be even worse than the Andrew McMahon one. Alter the Ending behind Crooked Shadows and The Shade of Poison Trees is psychotic. And I have a fondness for Swiss Army too, but there are some real rough sketch songs on that album.
I didn't think that ranking was too terrible lol. I'm in the boat that Alter the Ending is a incredibly forgettable album. Crooked Shadows isn't much better, but at least it has We Fight and Heart Beat Here. My ranking would probably go: Places AMAMABAS Swiss ATTTICT Dusk Shade Crooked Alter the Ending
I just don't get that at all. Ending is stacked with some of the best hooks he ever wrote. A much richer album melodically and production-wise than Crooked Shadows, which just feels like a writers block album for me. So much pointless repetition in those songs. I enjoy it for what it is, but it's definitely the worst of the "electric" albums. Shade still sits last on my list, though. I've tried to get into that one so many times, and it still just feels like a plastic retread of the first two albums. And it's rendered even worse by the fact that he pulled off the return-to-acoustic approach so much better last year. Mark Dusk Places Ending (Twin Forks) Swiss Truth Crooked Shade
Swiss Places Mark Truth the rest (i haven't listened to the rest in forever) i'm listening to Shade right now though and this opening track is so good. "where there's gold, there's a gold digger."
Love me some Shade. I’m still missing that, Dusk, and Mark on vinyl. Would love to be able to fill those gaps.
Just picked up Dusk (should be delivered today), and then Shade and Mark will be the ones (that I want) I'm missing too.
Such an odd entry to his discography, very disjointed and feels cobbled together with no real throughline. Some solid tracks, but a lot of clunkers
Heart Beat Here is great too. A very throwback Dashboard acoustic song but happy instead of sad haha. Ended up being our wedding song, as we were still not decided and then heard that song a few weeks before it and my wife said she wanted it.
There are three pretty great songs on Crooked Shadows and they beg the question of why the rest of the album feels so thin and underwritten. Such a strange comeback album.
We Fight and Heart Beat Here are fantastic. I also really like Catch You, but I think that was originally a Dusk b-side? Also like Julien Baker vibes on the closer. Belong would've been a cool feature, but to have it on a Dashboard album feels odd. I couldn't even tell you how the other 4 songs sound.
