I really love this album man. just hearing a mid-40s rapper so openly embracing and platforming a bunch of trans artists feels so powerful right now. I get why people don't love all the spoken word but I find it really emotional by the time the album's over Danny is just a real one man, he's out here setting an example for every other rapper
Didn't enjoy my second listen as much as my first unfortunately, but this does have me on a Danny kick. Running through Atrocity Exhibition and Old this morning
Finally got to this over the last few days and I already think this is probably my favorite album of his since Atrocity Exhibition. Absolutely wild production, super catchy choruses, and sneakily some of his all-time best and most mature writing as a rapper I truly love how much of an artist Danny is, I fully trust that he will never do the same thing twice and puts a ton of care into what he puts out
nah it is. some of his all-time worst stuff on that album, Handstand and Way Up Here are especially egregious
I feel like we're devolving into extremes a bit. I probably like the experimentation on this more than I do on Old, even if I don't think it's always successful. Still think Quaranta and XXX are at the top for me, but I think the swings he took here are really cool
I’m really into hyperpop, so this is probably my favorite album by him. I love the Frost Children feature. If you haven’t, check out their album from this year too.
The Frost Children song is the worst on the album for me. Not bad, just boring. I’d take Handstand and Way Up Here over that any day, especially as one is produced by Rustie.
Some very big flops on this one for me but the highs were great, gonna be going back thru his discog over the rest of the year for sure
ok I was in a bad mood yesterday so apologies to the bad vibes but people writing this off after it's been out a whole week bummed me out a bit. to be a bit more fair I think Old has some of his all-time best (Dope Fiend Rental is *insane*) but the weaker songs on that album just feel surprisingly uninspired and lacking his usual personality to me. some of those Side B songs are on the borderline of being generic misogynist trap songs maybe not every swing on this lands (I don't love 1999 either) but feels like they all come from a place of genuine experimentation and love for the genre, nothing feels generic
