Old was overrated as a corrective to underrating XXX.

In a year with new ETID and Norma Jean, this may be my AOTY. The beats are so wild and Danny settles into them so smoothly, it's crazy. Ain't It Funny and Dance In The Water are my favorites.

"Earl Sweatshirt does that thing where he acts like he’s not rapping but ends up murdering everyone anyway while expending as little energy as possible."

    Pretty well said

Sort've tuned out the rhyming today and just listened to the beats... some really astounding sounds and jagged rhythms that I can't imagine any other mainstream rapper sounding so at home on.

There's something sonic going on here that goes beyond rapping ability. The elasticity and timbre of Danny Brown's voice is a key factor in how he's able to hang onto these beats. As a counterexample, I didn't love how Vince Staples pushed into more industrial sounding beats on Prima Donna. His voice just didn't fit the surroundings for me in the same way.

one of danny's best qualities is that he can go over beats that nobody else in the genre can go over. this album is the top example of that fact.

Almost definitely gonna make my top 10 of the year, if not even 5

It might be my #2 hip-hop album behind TLOP

This has to be in my top five. I can't stop listening. There's no one else like Danny out there. I've been all about hell for it lately, he writes the best closers

Holy shit this show was insane. He was only on for about an hour but I might have passed out from pure hype if he was on much longer so I didn't mind. There was a section in the middle that was just banger after banger (mostly the second half of Old) and it was crazy. Dope Song live is probably now one of my favorite concert experiences

Only complaints are I wish there were more new songs and the ending was kind of abrupt, Paranoia doesn't really work that well as a closer

He also sounds exactly the same live. It was strange seeing/hearing that voice coming from a real human being 10 feet away from me lol

    pneumonia you mean, haha.
but yeah, that was wild. i almost felt he was lipsyncing most of the time hahaha. ending wasn't great and very abrupt but it was still a blast throughout

Not as into the direction as I was on Old, but absolutely unlistenable garbage first track aside, this is quite good. "Ain't It Funny" is insanely awesome and "Really Doe" is killer.
