    As of Jan. 1, 2026, Ek will “transition” to the role of executive chairman of Spotify, the company said Tuesday. At that time, Gustav Söderström, currently co-president and chief product and technology officer, and Alex Norström, co-president and chief business officer, will become Spotify’s co-CEO. Söderström and Norström will report to Ek and both will also serve on the company’s board of directors (subject to shareholder approval).

    So it sounds like nothing is really changing and having “Ek steps down” will look good for idk, shareholders or something. I have to guess that the news of Ek and AI military stuff hurt them enough to make them announce something like this.

    Doubtful; there's no evidence this hurt Spotify in any way. Plus, it's really not uncommon for startup CEO's to eventually transition like this. Netflix, Amazon, Google, Microsoft... all of their founder CEOs eventually stepped into some advisor role and passed the torch.
