It's funny, I got into DGD because my phone notifications glitched and the Google app wouldn't stop reminding Mothership ("an album you showed interest in") was recently released
Sometimes I wish I could say I never knew early DGD and Mothership was my introduction. Then I wouldn’t have such a nostalgic affinity for those early albums like I do.
Yea I get heavy nostalgia for DBM especially but then I realize I don’t care for like a third of it. I feel safe saying Mothership is the best and personal favorite already.
I was introduced when DBM was their only record, wasn't super into Death Star when it came out for some reason, immediately loved Happiness, went back and loved DS, loved DBM2, ambivalent on AS, hate IG, and mothership is p great but nowhere near the first 4 for me
Mothership is great, I love Instant Gratifcation to death, Acceptance Speech is a really fun record, DBM II is probably their most emotional yet fun album, Happiness is a solid album but only a few tracks really stick out, Self-Titled is decent, I never listened to DBM all the way through but I like a lot of it, and Whatever I Say Is Royal Ocean is a really awesome underrated release. Favorite song from each release: Mothership: Frozen One Instant Gratification: Awkward Acceptance Speech: Jesus H. Macy DBM II: Elder Goose (or Purple Reign) Happiness: Carl Barker (or Strawberry Swisher Pt. 2) Self-Titled: Me and Zoloft Get Along Just Fine DBM: Strawberry Andre WISIRO: The Robot Vs. Heroon Battle Of Vietnam
I remember back in 07 I loved Times New Roman, but it wasn't till about a year later when I heard BDTNA pt.2 that I actually became a fan. Love love that song. "If you're gonna wear the uniform you better sell the cookies" One of the few times I actually understood Mess correctly.
Decided to throw on their whole discography. Such a consistently good band. Each release is so unique in its own and I love that.
I love the older stuff for being raw and out there. They took a lot of risks that paid off nicely and really pushed the scene forward. Now they feel more comfortable in their groove these past couple of records. Great material, but I'm hoping they push themselves again this record.
I’m gonna be controversial buuut I would love to see DGD do away with screaming. I think it holds them back from gaining new fans and Jon can’t even keep it up long enough for a set over like 45 minutes.
Kurt Travis, the best Dance Gavin Dance singer, has a new band with Sergio and the ALLB drummer. Get stoked.
Still waiting for that Kurt solo album to come out. But this and Pushover (I believe that was recently finished) will do too.
Coming up on a year overdue for that solo record. when I asked him in fall 2016 he said it was just about ready, if I remember correctly
