Lmao, Chocolate Jackalope is my favorite on the entire album (Well, tied with Frozen One) Opinions are so varied and weird and beautiful, ah!
Ok so I'd keep deception but man Inspire the Liars and Chuckie should have been cut. Some good ideas in Inspire, but as a whole it's pretty disappointing. Frozen One and parts of Here Comes the Winner and the second half of Flossie Dickie show glimmers of former greatness but the rest doesn't come close.
The only thing that should've been cut is Exposed. Why they let Tilian indulge himself with that shit lake is beyond me.
Philosopher King is eh until it gets wacky around 1:30. Here Comes the Winner is another one where it starts slow for me and meanders too much but that chorus is beautiful. Exposed is a JAM through and through.
Probably DGD's best lyrics ever, and I love how the band got to experiment with different guutar/synth effects and sounds. It show's DGD can be more than just a shouting match between Jon, and XYZ Clean Singer. (No diss to the rest of DGD's discography, I love this band through and through)
I think the fact no one can agree on what songs should be cut from Mothership means that no songs should have been cut.
This is roughly how the album breaks down for me, plenty of flexibility though Frozen one Deception Inspire the liars Betrayed by the game Here comes the winner Exposed Chucky Philosopher king Young robot Man of the year Chocolate jackalope Flossie Petting zoo justice
It's one of the worst things lyrically I've ever heard. I'd have no issue with that song if Tilian was less terrible in it.
Chocolate Jackalope Frozen One Inspire The Liars Betrayed By The Game Chucky Vs The Giant Tortoise Exposed Philosopher King Here Comes The Winner Young Robot Flossie Dickie Bounce Deception Man Of The Year Petting Zoo Justice Is about how this album shapes up for me
I love Flossie Dickie Bounce. I liked Happiness a lot but man is Kurt repetitive as hell in those songs. Carl Barker always feels like it goes on a chorus too long.
I swear I have the weirdest/most detailed dreams but in my dream last night, DGD was in the studio and Will showed us a live video showing off part of a song. It had three different vocals or what seemed to be Jonny, Kurt, and Tilian on one track. Album was rumored to be named DBM3 for whatever reason. The opening riff of the one song was really cool although I don't remember it at all. I've never done drugs. I was sober all weekend, too.
I think every dgd album is perfect as is except acceptance speech (which has some of the band’s weakest songs ever; that first half...bleh) and IG which struggles here and there within certain songs. Not entire songs as a whole. Example: variation and lost could both benefit with reworking/restructuring. I eventually get bored with both tracks because of repetition and the fact they never really go anywhere besides the ending of lost which is perdy anticlimactic :(
