Disagree but we can certainly celebrate the season with some Spooks. That, elder goose, and heat seeking are my easy top 3 on that record.
The run of songs from 8, 9, and 10 is a discography highlight for me, up there with the opening trios from the two KT albums.
DBM is amazing in some ways, and terrible in others. If I had to rank it by itself: Pounce Bounce Elder Goose Purple Reign Spooks Swan Soup Privilously Poncheezied The Robot With Human Hair pt. 2 1/2 Heat Seeking Ghost Of Sex Need Money Blue Dream Thug City Edit: The bottom 5 songs could not exist and i'd be fine with it.
I find that the intro sounds nice. Jonny has a nice harmony for the riff Will plays. But the lyrics are poop, the transition into the chorus is brash and lazy compared to what Will usually does. The chorus itself sucks imo, I can't understand Jonny and think it sounds drastically different than the verses. Doesn't get any better on the bridge imo.
This ranking makes me violently ill, though I agree Robot and Heat Seeking are among my least favorites on the album.
You say my ranking makes you ill, but aside from Thug City and Need Money we're practically the same on it.
Oh yeah ok, then we disagree haha. I think those are some of their worst, most disjointed songs ever as well as the worst vocals from Jonny in the band aside from WISIRO. Will has some crazy riffs for sure in Thug and Need, but the structuring and vocal delivery on both give me a headache.
Oh man I totally disagree, I think the weird unpredictability of how that song moves from one section to the next is part of why it’s so great. One of DGD’s best “weird” songs.
Oh damn I would say that's some of their most cohesive yet unpredictable and creative songwriting, and DBM2 might boast his best vocals, or DBM1
Blue Dream might be an all time fav for me, but I wished it didn't include that cringy ending. Need Money is wild, love it.
The ending is one of the best DGD moments. And I love how it links to the second verse of the next song when he sings about blue eyes.
I just sat down and started listening to this album seriously (DBM II), and damn, as bad as Jon's screams are, Jonny's melodies almost balance them out with an intangible beautiful quality
The run of DBM through Happiness is such a great three-album stretch. I still love a lot of DBM II and the Tilian albums, but I think I’ve decided the first three albums are my favorites again.
Happiness is one of those albums where pretty much every time I listen to it I'm just blown away all over again.
