Oh man I'm angry. Vasudeva had copies of their new album on sale, and I didn't get one before the DGD went on because I didn't want to break it. It was sold out when I went back. Also, DGD slayed, but weirdly they went on before CHON. There was snow so maybe they wanted to head out early? Also, get back home safe js977!
Got home a little while ago (I'm spending the night in Rochester), that got out way earlier than I expected. When they announced it was a co-headliner I figured they'd alternate dates, but considering I'd never heard of Chon I figured DGD were way bigger/too big to co with them. That said, holy shit what a great set. Played all my favorites from mothership and was ecstatic to see open your eyes and look north and backwards pumpkin song. Almost perfect set list for me. And got a will swan pick haha Also, I was impressed with vasudeva. I'll be checking em out for sure.
@sawhney[rusted]2 do you know roughly what the crowd size/capacity was yesterday? i suck at crowd sizes
Thought I'd post this in here as every little helps - this girl was in a car accident on the way to a recent DGD show which badly injured her and killed her partner. Even $10 if any of you guys can spare it would surely go a long way towards helping her out in such a difficult time. So fucking sad.
@PandaBear! are you in DGD groups on Facebook? I'm in a bunch of groups where that post has been shared... I wonder if we've interacted on there haha
I'm not, no - I saw it after Will reposted it (I follow his personal FB page, he wouldn't accept my friend requests ). I'm not a huge FB user so I don't tend to join any groups tbh!
There's a new A Lot Like Birds song out there.... Unsure about how I feel about it. Basically sounds like an entirely different band now. That isn't why I am unsure about it though, it's more how, I don't know, plain it sounds.
I've heard a few more tracks besides the single... I personally really love the new direction. It's obviously a big shift, but I think Cory's emotion/lyrics and the gorgeous melodies are great.
Already released! Album - Stolas - Stolas Spoiler alert: it's quite good! It's a pretty comprehensive anthology record of post-hardcore around 2005-2010
This one isn't my favorite of the ones I've heard, it's definitely more "straightforward" in terms of the composition but I think it's a very good single choice. If you like more mellow emo/indie rock music you'll probably really enjoy the new stuff overall.
heard the new ALLB, it's okay but didn't really impact me like i was hoping, i listened to it and didn't really feel the urge to listen again. but hopefully the album as a whole will be good. definitely sounds like an entirely new band, and like others have said, that's not the problem, it's just kinda... boring especially compared to their previous work. also, new stolas is great, stolas would be a prime example of how to switch up your sound after a member change without going totally off the rocker
their facebook just posted a teaser for tomorrow. doesn't give much away musically though and i haven't heard the leak so idk if its the same.
I think the new ALLB is a grower, especially when you hear songs in context of each other (and assumedly the entire album). I talked earlier with a music writer I know who's heard the whole album already and he compared it HEAVILY to The Receiving End of Sirens' album The Earth Sings Mi Fa Mi. The atmosphere, meaning of the songs, and way they all connect together is just as important as the "technicality" of the instrumentation.
