I'd gotten the vibe that Jonny's recent musical and personal failings had led to his earlier stuff being a bit overlooked/underrated. Some of the melodies on DBM and the Relativity are bone chilling.
yeah his DBM1 melodies are still good. whatever else, not so much. it's like he jumped off a cliff in 2008
I like the guy fairly there are some really big vocal no nos on the latest album tho. his falsetto sucks.
amounts to about 3 or 4 out of pitch falsettos really. on one hand its not that big a deal bc it doesn't last long but it makes me want to rip my ears off.
BBTG all day. Uneasy Hearts always came across to me as a joke song so I think it's a weird comparison to begin with. It's safe to say/Antlion are top tracks for me on that album. Jonny's bridge in the former is some of my favorite lines/melodies ever.
this is really specific but from 1:30 to 2:20 in open your eyes and look north is a top 3 jonny moment for me, and certainly ranks high in general. i use the time because i dont trust the lyrics i see online.
That track is easily the 3rd choice for me on that album. I really do sometimes hear this album and the other earlier stuff Jonny did with his career and wish he didn't give into his vices. Vices that have effected both his ability to work with talented artists as well as personal talent. No one ever had as much potential as that guy did in his respective scene.
one of my fav jonny moments that rivals the opening to past should stay dead is the chorus to privilously poncheezied (spelling? don't feel like googling).
If there's any DBMII Jonny moment that rivals his earlier stuff, it's Blue Dream imo. What a vocal performance.
DBM2 definitely has its moments and I don't dislike it nearly as much as everyone else. Low points for me are jonny's distasteful lyrics at times and some really bad transitions that do not mesh well. Blue Dream starts off strong, but that chorus is terrible and doesn't sound like it belongs at all. Thug city/need money I find completely unlistenable.
It's always funny to me how much DBMII is hated on here. My first exposure to DGD fans was the subreddit, and DBMII is easily the collective favorite over there.
lyrics aside, i think spooks, elder goose, heat seeking ghost, and privilously poncheezied were up there with the rest of the discography in terms of how fun they are to listen to. rest the album is more forgettable but it has its moments.
