To be honest, I haven't really given any of them a good listen. Maybe a single song here and there, but nothing substantial. I'm not usually one for slow tempo stuff.
It honestly might be for me too... the ALLB records are phenomenal for me too but not just because of Kurt, in terms of albums where he shines the most it'd probably be Everything Is Beautiful and Happiness.
Kurt's new project Eternity Forever is releasing their debut EP on 4/20... the genre tags include "neo-soul", "funk", "R&B", and "D'Angelo"... color me extremely excited! Fantasy, by Eternity Forever
1) No Place 2) Happiness 3) Everything is Beautiful 4) Conversation Piece 5) Deathstar All stellar tho
A couple interesting scoops on bands related to DGD... I'll do the less interesting one first. Slaves' new album apparently features songwriting from Will Swan, Joe from A Lot Like Birds, and a couple other people... I also recently heard who the musicians who play on it are. There's only one "surprise" but it's a cool addition for fans of Jonny's past projects if true. Tbh the teasers for their new stuff that I've heard sound *somewhat* promising, not holding my breath though.
And now for the good one... A Lot Like Birds is gearing up to release music SOON. Get ready for this one guys, it's gonna be big. I've heard a song, which I LOVED, and everyone I've talked to that's heard it can't shut up about how great it is.
I'm surprised. I'm cautious because I thought Travis was such a great fit for the band, but I'm hoping its at a similar level as the last two (which is extremely high)
It's definitely a shift, but not as much as Kurt's op-ed basically calling them "sellouts" would have you believe. If anything Kurt would've fit extremely well into the change in sound. But it's okay because Matt and ESPECIALLY Cory kill the singing, at least in what I've heard.
Did you sign an NDA about the song? Because if not, can you describe it a little bit at least? Is it more atmospheric like Mike's solo stuff? EDIT: WELP! Nevermind! haha
Haha I only heard it once and in the car with a friend so I probably couldn't tell you all the details anyway... like I said it's definitely still post-hardcore, just more melodic and less chaotic, and only cleans. From what another friend I talked to more recently said there's only a small handful of screams across the whole album.
Also the big thing that surprised me that I've heard from people is that Matt has more of a backing role vocally... some songs are a balance between him and Cory, and others are almost all Cory. Cory is definitely the "lead vocalist" it seems.
Really happy for Eidola too, Andrew is a super genuine and talented guy and has been holding down rhythm guitar for DGD for a while now. Great that his own band is finally getting on DGD tours.
If you are a fan of Thrice, I would HIGHLY recommend Eidola's Degeneraterra, Andrew has a similar quality in his voice to Dustin and that album has a ton of thematic depth like the best of Thrice, while sonically being a bit more similar to DGD and similar bands.
