Screw Sound Rink. I'm so sick of that company. Lost $50 to them. They seem to never book in DC, MD area anymore so I doubt I'll see them so long as they remain on that Sound Rink booking situation.
definitely gonna try to make it to the rochester show, havent seen DGD since the first jonny days. also, ive never heard of chon. also, this is the same night as eisley in ithaca. gotta choose DGD. wish they'd play mothership in its entirety
Baltimore right? It was too much for a train ride up/back on a work night. I'm talking DC/Silver Spring area. They haven't been here since 2014.
Yeah it was Baltimore. I'm not from the area at all and was visiting at the time, so I have no clue how far that is from the DC area tbh
For anyone who wasn't able to catch DGD in Europe, these are some of the best videos with Kurt and Jonny I have been able to track down so far. I doubt this will be the last time that Kurt and Jonny ever perform with the band. However, if it is, I am very happy for Kurt and Jonny to have gotten the opportunity to go out on a high note.
SAME! "Fooooooool, your wooord meaaaans shit My eeeeeyes they woooonderrrrr" Freaking love that part immediately followed by Jon's ramblings, lol
Only thing I would knock Jonny on regarding the live version of Spooks from the European tour is that he he repeats the "slow down, stop me now" part at the end instead of ending on "move in, take what's not yours, take what i worked for". When I watched the first video of Spooks from the tour pop up, I thought it was just a mistake he made in the moment. However, he does the same thing on videos of Spooks from other dates, so I guess the lyrical change was intentional on Jonny's end. It's weird because he still does the "move in" part during the first half of the song. I'll have to find it later, but I remember some really good versions of Spooks from Warped Tour with another dope improv ending that was different form the album version. Also with regard to Spooks, that's one song I really like hearing Tilian on, as challenging as it is for him to sing the vocal parts that are on a lower register. I think you can tell if Tilian really likes an old Jonny or Kurt song if he takes a few melodic liberties on it, rather than just singing the same exact melodies verbatim to the album versions throughout the entire song.
I always thought it was "My eyes, they wander" which seems to make more sense written out. Then again, we're talking about JC so..
Also, one of my really favorite Jonny Craig/Jon Mess parts is the end of DBM2. Purple reign has an outro that departs from the entire song and Jonny has one of his best melodies from that album then. The lyrics are inaudible and Jon actually screaming "I got a sense that this is overdone. Badda lay shee letzay frun" over and over was always cool to me. Creative fuckers.
what venue in dc books metalcore/whatever you want to call this group of bands that are warped tour post-hardcore/whatever stuff other than the fillmore? which they are probably not big enough for? there's a reason bands of that genre always play things like soundstage or rams head, because dc venues don't book those bands
Without a doubt. Tilian has some good solo stuff but not on the level of Kurt's, and Jonny's stuff since his solo debut has been mediocre as all hell.
i liked Everything Is Beautiful quite a bit. hope the new solo stuff stays in that direction. the video sounds cool
Yeah, Tilian has some really strong songs, but there's only a couple I'd say are even close to as strong as Kurt's stuff. I don't like any of Jonny's solo stuff really. I still only really like Jonny in the context of DGD though. Everything is Beautiful is a really strong album. Kurt's two songs from his split earlier this year were very solid too. I'm really hopeful for his new album next year.
9:30 club doesn't book shows with bands like that though, at least only very very rarely. just because the venue is the right size doesn't mean that is the space that will book those bands
Eternity Forever is really enticing. Excited to see what they put out next year. I've never liked Kurt's solo stuff so I'm glad to see him in a somewhat full band.
