Tbh, I hear a lot more Issues and OM&M in here than, for example, PTV or Silverstein (never listened to The Fall of Troy). Maybe it's something I need to spend more time with, because I do enjoy quite a bit of post hardcore.

You took what I said too seriously, cause I essentially meant I was reading Mothership's lyrics for the first time. I'm pretty familiar with most of their albums lyrics, and I think this album takes the cake by far for Mess's.... mess.

Also this band is not post-hardcore.

Guitars + drums + clean vocals + unclean vocals do not equal a post-hardcore band.

I listen to DGD specifically because they're the only band that can combine what I love about my favorite genres. Between Tilian's pop vocals, Jonny's R&B style, Will Swan's jazz/funk/metal (cause he's a G) and Mingus' odd rhythms in common time (another jazz element) they've pretty much got all the bases covered as far as what I like in music. I find most of the recent music from everyone on Rise (except for maybe Pvris) really boring and generic, so comparing them to their labelmates just seems odd to me, but I don't really listen to the genre anymore so I might be out of touch as to what it sounds like now. I kinda figured it just never changed tbh. I can get behind the Fall of Troy comparison though, Erak's guitar work and his vocal melodies are a much more similar sound to DGD imo than a band like Issues.

It's like absurdism on copious amounts of coke and acid. If you don't find the mental images of kangaroo cracking its dick in half or a horse physically assaulting some kid's parents funny, then I'm just sad for you.

Some of Mess' lyrics are funny for sure, some absolutely miss the mark (the one about a cumming dick & butt cancer or something in Inspire The Liars? fucking stupid). The one quoted above is kinda funny to me for it's pure ridiculousness. For better or worse he is the only vocalist I can think of who can get away with being so ridiculous - he's a USP for this band for sure. Plus, he's genuinely an intelligent dude from what i've seen in interviews/AMA's, so that nonsense above may well have some meaning after all.

the rise core parts sound kinda likerise core. They have been doing that more lately. The rest doesnt at all really unless you count squeaky high vocals.

There's so many moments on this album that I wish just weren't there. "Cocaine cringefest" is just atrocious.

I've been on board with most Mess lyrics for most of this band's history but there are a LOT of really bad ones on this. Also Tilian is an atrocious lyricist, but that's been the case since he joined the band

His lyrics pre-Mothership were passable, but he's reached a whole new level now and I don't think the nonsense lyrics work for him the way they do for Jon since they're usually comprehensible on first listen.
