Being a HUGE fan of the Kurt era, this record pleasantly surprised me so much. I would say as of now.. it's DGD's best record to date IMO. It's heavy as hell but somehow poppier then ever too? I love it. Tillian sounds incredible as well.

 

COCAAAAINE CRINGE FEEEEST

 

Got up at 6:45am to download this before I go to work! Have only listened to Frozen One, Deception & Inspire The Liars so far but chose to listen to each song 3 times in a row before moving on to the next one?! Weird thing to do, and I don't recommend it lol. All three were 'good' IMO; not great and I can't see these songs (plus Chucky & FDB) being the upbeat/poppy ones you guys have been talking about - sounds closer to DBM1 & Deathstar-style post-hardcore than I was expecting.
Does it get more upbeat in the 2nd half?

 

I still haven't received any tracking information from Merchnow, and I only ordered the album. No bundles. I hope it arrives today or tomorrow.

 

Yeah those songs aren't a good indicator. FDM, Here Comes The Winner and Chocolate Jackalope are everything.

 

FDB is not fun for me. Big fan of the rest, and I think i'm willing to say my 3rd favorite album.

 

I still dig a lot of the Jonny and Kurt stuff more. Could be nostalgia reasons or idk, I just feel like I can tell those songs apart

 

Kurt, sure, but ever Jonny song always sounded the same to me lol.

There is some great newer songs though; William H Macy, Awkward, the jiggler

 

Is it called Deathstar, or self titled, The first Kurt album? That one in retrospect might be my favorite. Rock solid.

 

Ahhh gotcha. You don't like any songs off Mothership?

 

It's technically S/T but even the band calls it Deathstar ha.

 

Inspire The Liars I am loving. Streaming it at my retail store. See if people like shopping to this.

i think my favorite line on the record is "I'LL PRETEND I'M BETTER THAN THESE CLONES, AND THEIR PLASTIC FACES" because it's so goofy

 

also i'm reading way too far into this and i'm almost certain it wasn't going for it, but flossie dickey bounce reminds me of a lot of late 90s house sampling which makes me like it aside from the dang lyrics

 

"Philosopher King" has to be in serious contention for the best song they've put out with Tilian, at least.

 

Finished the album. Early thoughts = Their 2nd best with Tilian, I'd score it 7.5/10

Chocolate Jackalope an overwhelming favourite atm. The part starting with the short rap is absolutely brilliant - does Jon say something about being a cat in disguise or something?!

 

This album is fantastic. I'm glad Mess is continuing to build on his melodic screaming, will be one of the most interesting aspects going forward!

 

yeah. the rise recordsy stuff. "why" is all that comes to mind everytime they take a break from doing something interesting and churn those turd moments out. makes no sense for them to be doing that shit. makes no sense for anyone to be doing that post 2010 either. fuckin weird

 

Check your order status. I didn't receive any email notification either but when i checked my order status it said that it shipped.

 

I think this might be my new favorite DGD record, but I need more time to process it. I've already listened all the way through four times but I need to give it a while. Tillian has never sounded better, and the music is absolutely killer. So many of the groovy, weird moments that made me fall in love with this band. AOTY contender for me.

 

I'm so done with merchnow. Even though they messed up my TBS order not two weeks ago, I went with them again for TDWP. Same exact issue. How hard is it to send a preorder in time. I would love to boycott them but they always have great pre order bundles. Which sucks.

 

Five songs in, and as a huge Tilian hater and someone who thought the singles from this were painfully bad, I'm liking 2-6 decently!

 

I ordered the Orbs album in August when it was on sale. Got it very quickly, except it was the wrong album, sent it back immediately. And STILL haven't gotten the record I ordered. When I've asked Customer Service why it's taking so long, they just told me "It's just a busy time of year! Back to school and all!". Other than that, just nothing. I really want to get their Jane Doe variant w/ t-shirt but I just doubt I'll ever see it in the next decade.
