I'm starting to get the merchnow hate... Apparently pre-orders are just being shipped throughout the week instead of just yesterday... so many people may not even have it by release date. I've never had issues from them until this year but they fucked up Pierce the Veil, the Dear Hunter, Paper Route and DGD all in one year now.
I received my TBS preorder one day after release day from Merchnow this year, which isn't too bad. I still haven't received my DGD tracking number yet, though.
I didn't see my IG bundle last year for over a week after it's release date. I distinctly remember them botching several Coheed-related preorders in the past as well. For me and many others if the forums were any indication. Never had a good experience with them.
Merchnow is dreadful. I preorder an album on vinyl last year and when it eventually arrived it was in terrible condition due to them being incapable of correctly packaging vinyl.
I feel like I used to get preorders at least a day before release for most things but this whole year everything ends up coming the next day or a few days after release. Haven't even recieved an email about my vinyl preorders for TDWP(merchnow) or BalCo(kingsroad). Both of which come out on Friday. Doubt I'll see them until next week at this rate.
Are there nice emotional parts on this record, like FDB's second half (or Pussy Vultures' second verse)?
I can think of a couple more. There's not a whole lot of slow down on this iirc. Guitars are mostly never clean like they used to do until those few parts either.
Listened to most of the albums apart from WISIRO and DBMII but Happiness I think is my favourite by far. Following that is IG ,which I really liked. After that it's the self titled then AS then DBM. I think I really gravitate more to the groovy side of DGD and care much less about the actual hardcore elements of the band.
Yeah well there's been more rise recordsy hardcore riffs and breakdowns since AS. I'm confused why they decided to start that now prominently.
The more I listen to their discog the more I think Instant Gratification was their best album. Stokes me out for this next one even more.
Either IG or Happiness for me, especially when they let the clean vocals take over for the majority of the songs. I think that's why I'm more excited for this new album from what I've heard. It's not that I hate the unclean vocals, I just think they can take away from a lot of the catchiness that lots of their songs have. But with these new tracks, they've balanced it out perfectly imo.
^this albums a little more balls to the wall than mostly clean vocals. Young Robot is a bit of an outlier in that regard
Eh, as I said I don't hate them necessarily, I'll just wait and see until Friday. IG had its fair share of unclean and it didn't bother me too much, it was just in the earlier albums that they just sounded more obnoxious than they have done recently.
I'm just getting into this band today. I heard the singles and thought they were amazing. "Chucky vs. The Giant Tortoise" has been in my head non-stop. So far I've heard the first EP and the first two records. The S/T is my favorite so far. I like this singer's voice, but the new one is my favorite.
Their discography is going to be a wild ride for you! You'll find all sorts of varied opinions on here about which albums or singers are the best. Enjoy. :)
Yeah I agree with the above post, there's a lot of variety in their discography and an interesting history of all the different lineups lol... enjoy!
If you're a big fan of Tilian's vocals, make sure to check out Tides of Man's Dreamhouse when you get a chance. More of an alternative prog rock sound akin to Circa Survive, as opposed to DGD's funky post-hardcore. For me, it's nice to hear his vocals without the unclean stuff cutting in constantly, even though I appreciate DGD's sound too.
So far I've only heard the newest singer and their first singer. I don't think one is better per say, but they bring different flavors. I think the new singer and the screamer have a bit more chemistry. Maybe that's the songwriting. Although, Johnny Craig's new band is not good at all.
I just found the guitarist in Strawberry Girls was in DGD. That make's a lot of sense. I'm a big fan of Strawberry Girls so that's awesome.
I think you have actually heard all three! Jonny is the singer on Downtown Battle Mountain, Kurt is on self-titled, and Tilian on the new singles.
Seconded. I have been a huge fan of Dreamhouse since before DGD ever released any music with Tilian. Great record.
Woah really. The Apple Music bio made me think otherwise. Okay, then I definitely like Kurt and Tillian (what a cool name) better than Jonny.
