Listened to the leak in my car over the past couple days and it didn't sound bad at all that way. Definitely not gonna try headphones until friday but holy heck this record is damn amazing all the way through. The whole band really stepped their game up on this one.
Everyone who's heard the album should rate it out of 10. I'll then cross-reference the individual posters who rate it with my excel spreadsheet of who's opinion is worth a damn (again a rating out of 10, with 1 being 'posts awful opinions' and 10 being the opposite), then will adjust my excitement accordingly!
I like Tillian so much more on here than I did on the last two albums. Betrayed By the Game is still probably my favourite but I like every song on here.
Okay, so before I listen to this album on Friday, I want to give their discography a full run through. Any recommendations on where to start? I know that there's three different vocalists and it won't be the best representation on what to expect but any standout songs/albums would be appreciated!
Thanks for the ratings guys - my expectations have been slightly dampened, but still feeling positive. My brother listened to the leak and said there was underwhelming electronic bits across the whole album, is that true? I'm not against electronic parts at all, but sometimes they can come across as tacky in this genre IMO.
I'd say if you're planning to go through their whole discography anyway, you might as well start with Downtown Battle Mountain, their first full-length, and go in order from there. However, I'd at the very least recommend hearing Tilian's two albums before this, Acceptance Speech and Instant Gratification, to get an idea of where the band is at now.
Yeah, think I'm gonna start with IG first, remember I listened to WOTN but never really followed up after it even though it was really damn catchy.
Tilian shreds those vocal chords on Inspire the Liars. Sounds pretty much like nothing else I've heard before. Pretty cool and intense sounding.
Can't go wrong with that! That and Acceptance Speech are pretty good introductions. If you like their catchy, funky elements you'd probably really like the Kurt Travis albums as well, which are the self-titled and Happiness.
Yeah, I think the funky elements are what I like most about the singles they released, which is why I like BBTG and Young Robot a bit more than CVTGT, even though I still do like CVTGT quite a lot.
I definitely think you'll love the new album then! It's a good mix with a lot of really catchy moments.
Holy fucking SHIT at some of the vocals on this album. How the hell is he going to do this live every night?
Why won't Jon Mess sing some more? It's better to change things up. His non screaming vocals on Deathstar helped make that album their best. There's quite a bit more he did on that album than people talk about really. Back and forth vocal interplay is something I don't think they nearly take enough advantage of considering it makes their music a lot more fun when they do it effectively and like they have 2 vocalists ya know. They should exploit that more and get extra weird with it
The fact that you have Gerard Way as your avatar gives your opinion 10x more weight STILL holding out till 10/7 I know I can do this
