Not entirely sure I agree with that description, but Anberlin is my favorite band, and I've only been sorta into DGD in the past, but this album clicked with me immediately.
Anyone on the fence about listening, I'd advise against - leak seriously sounds like ass. Like a 96 kbps stream ripped and then recompressed or something lol.
Leak is indeed genuinely awful quality, but I really didn't even mind because I was so hooked throughout. This is easily their best album with Tilian... at the same time it's catchier, more emotional, heavier, more technical, more raw... all AT THE SAME TIME. I don't even know how they managed to step it up so much, because while I loved AS and IG, they did not prepare me for this.
Yeah, this is really, really good. I've been a casual fan of this band since around the time Tilian joined, but I've never thought they were amazing outside of a few songs. This album is something else, though.

These reactions have me fucking HYPED!!! No way am I listening to any sort of stream so I'm waiting until next week. They put another clip up on twitter which sounded great too, so I am struggling to wait until Friday
