I'm honestly thinking the new album could be their best for me. It took me a while to fully accept Tilian as the DGD singer for me since he was so different from the Jonny/Kurt style I was used to, but he fits them great. And the new album is shaping up to be his best with DGD.
Earlier at work I came across the AMA this band did around the IG release, and thought this was an interesting excerpt from Mess who was for once talking seriously about how he writes his lyrics. Parts I found very peculiar I bolded. "JonMess123[S] 40 points 1 year ago I do like to map out the phrasing first, but i will often write parts ahead of time and have ammo to fit things in if need be. Could hear an instrumental and get ideas real quick. Other times I might go into the bank cause I knew something I had would fit. Sometimes I can't work out shit and drop gibberish to draw out phrasings, and then just let it cook in my head as I switch out words, maybe hit up the rhyme dictionary to move through the options faster. The process can vary, so there are pre written and concept stuff that I do, and other times its intuitive fun percussive stuff, it depends on what the instrumental sounds like, if you've ever listened to the instrumental demos of the band, that's what Im getting to write off, those songs already have a personality before I write over them, so for a lot of my most nonsensical shit is sometimes a reaction to what sounds to me like some quirky ass shit. But then another example, Dbm2 I went pretty far out there a lot of the time cause the situation with Jonny at the time made the album a bizarre experience, maybe Will's best and most technical album, and I was struggling with the writing cause I had to take over and fill shit up cause Jonny was deep in the hole mentally."
Didn't like that new one on 1st listen, 2nd listen = ok, 3rd listen = pretty cool but nowhere near BBTG level. Who the hell is that singing in the intro/outro?! Doesn't sound like Tilian...
I gotta say, the first half of that sounded genuinely garbage - song-wise, not performance-wise too There's less than 10 tracks this band have done that I didn't like, hoping this album doesn't contain more
I'm almost positive this is going to become my favorite DGD album. Possibly because I've already listened to the rest of their discography a hundred times, but still. I'm super into it. I know this is an unpopular opinion but I've never been into their animation videos. I appreciate the work that goes into it cause I like the artwork but the animation does not hold my attention any more than a lyric video.
this one was cool. they did something different with it. which is welcomed by me. yeah that was a flute tone at the beginning. Tilian has a moment of falsetto blunder here though ouch
"Flossie Dickey Bounce" is out there as well too I guess... haven't had a chance to hear anything new yet
