Was definitely a huge bummer listening to DBM2 for the first time. So much so, I don't know If I want to try again haha My tastes have evolved massively since 2007 but DBM will always be one of my favorite records. Was lucky enough to get it on clear vinyl a couple years back for dirt cheap.
All the other members are on good form, but Jonny just makes a mockery of his outstanding performance on DBM. Can't really blame him in a sense, as he was ravaged by addiction at the time of recording DBM2, but still...
the songs on dbm2 are just riffs held together by scotch tape. there's a bit of that on the latest two also
There's like four tracks in a row that I love on DBM2 and the rest I don't feel kindly about. I think it goes Elder Goose, Blue Dream, Privilously Poncheezied and Heat Seeking Ghost of Sex. Those are the only songs I ever go back to on that album but I like them enough where I'm not dismissive of DBM2. Self titled on the other hand... In other news they just sold out the LA show tomorrow!
Interesting to see how different sects of fans are totally different. On the Dance Gavin Dance subreddit, DBMII was commonly considered the best or second best album by the band.
Acceptance speech definitely seeming muddy and messy next to IG, but the production on the new songs is sounding really crisp. I didn't get too into the last two with Tilian but excited for this third one.
yeah im not sure the song sounds too discernible and it seems like its more the fault of the performance than the camera recording sound quality
1. Acceptance Speech 2. Deathstar 3. Happiness 4. Instant Gratification 5. DBMII 6. Downtown Battle Mountain 7. Whatever I say is Royal Ocean I can tell people ain't going to like this list lol
I can dig it! The Kurt albums have been my favorites for a while now, and I've gained a greater respect for Tilian after seeing him live and the amazing new songs.
Holy shit that sounds good. My expectations are starting to get high on this one. COCAAAAAIIIIINE CHRISTMAAAAASSSSSS
It's great. If I were to rank it with their other albums, I'd put it at 4th (in between Deathstar at 5th and Happiness at 3rd). Such an energetic and well executed live album.
